Default Alexandria public art ride on 4/24 and public art walk on 4/25

Which new mural in Alexandria was painted by two high-school students? Which sculpture is an abstract map of the historic Alexandria canal? Where can you find "floating" metal panels that were created using a hand-held plasma cutter? Come find out about some of Alexandria's public art during two free events organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (and yours truly).

When: Saturday, April 24 for the ride, or Sunday, April 25 for the walk. Register for a specific start time for the ride -- 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., or 10:00 a.m. -- by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...s-149984458553. Or register for a specific start time for the walk -- 10:00 or 10:30 a.m. -- by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...s-150174264267.

Where: We'll meet at Groundswell, the temporary art installation at Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street), then visit various public art installations in Alexandria. If you participated in our 2019 murals ride or 2020 public art ride, almost all of the stops are new. The bike route is about 16 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35402749. The walk route is about 2.6 miles, and will cover parts of Old Town and Old Town North: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35402964.

Who: People of all ages and abilities are welcome. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions:
    • breaking into small groups of no more than 15 people
    • requiring registrants to sign up in advance for specific time slots, half an hour apart
    • asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days
    • asking people to wear masks during the stops, and also while riding or walking if they can breathe comfortably while doing so
    • asking people to give each other at least 10 feet of space while riding or walking
    • keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the event if needed

All participants should bring a water, a face covering, and hand sanitizer. Ride participants should also bring a functioning bike and a helmet.

It was great to see so many Forum friends at today's ride, including bikesnick, Fast Friendly Guy, ltierstein, and Serdar! And a gigantic thank you to all-star volunteers smb9600 and CaseyKane50, who kept everyone safe on the 9:30 a.m. ride:
