The Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building at UMCP

Jeong H. Kim received the first Ph.D. in reliability engineering from the University of Maryland in 1991, and is now a professor of practice in the Clark School of Engineering. Kim has been widely recognized for his achievements. In 2005, shortly after being appointed president of Lucent's Bell Labs unit, he was named one of the Top 10 Most Influential Asian Americans in Business. He has been inducted into the National Academy of Engineering and sits on a number of corporate, university, and non-profit boards. An entrepreneur as well as an engineer, Kim founded Yurie Systems, where he pioneered the development of a revolutionary asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch for wireless applications. The ATM switch became a pivotal key in the modernization of telecommunications systems for today's digital market. In 2004, he was inducted into the Clark School's Innovation Hall of Fame.

This is the side entrance, the front of the building is more impressive, but it was blocked off for construction.

This historic Pump House was the City of Rockville’s first public water system and supplier of electricity for street lights and private homes. The Pump House is most infamous for a faulty well which resulted in a typhoid fever outbreak during the winter of 1913-1914. The Mayor and City Council then took measures to establish a state-of-the-art sewage system to prevent another outbreak.

The Pump House is now used as a community center. It has a cute birdhouse that is a miniature version of the building.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine building in Chinatown. Apparently the National Academy of Sciences was formed first and then later Engineering and then Medicine to provide objective policy advice. This building houses the National Academies Press bookstore for all three Academies on the right and also has sphere on top which I think represents GPS or satellites circling the globe.

Always fun riding by the castle on MacAurthur Blvd. According to Atlas Obscura this is the symbol of the Army Corps of Engineer and is also where the water from the reservoir enters the tunnel to the filtration system before being piped to our homes. I suppose if you can build anything for the gate then it might as well be a castle!

The new GW Science and Engineering Hall. It's a pretty impressive building. Hard to see from the reflection but if you walk up to the windows you can see a 3-story high bay for testing large structures to be more earthquake resistant.
