2/23/2021 -- mosaic. National Harbor has two cool mosaics by artist Cheryl Foster, celebrating notable people and species of the Chesapeake Bay. This part of the mosaic shows the commissioned admiral of the Chesapeake Bay, Carl White, holding a boat’s wheel, and a boatwright. But the mosaics also include a crab picker, a ship’s captain, crabs, and rockfish, pumpkinseed fish, bass, and yellow perch.
Hope your head is okay, Carol! This is beautiful, but maybe not worth a concussion. It looks very Tiffany like. Is it in a private home?
No, it's a Catholic church. I noticed it in the first place because it struck me as unusual. Most stained glass windows I've seen on Catholic churches have been saints or scenes from the life of Jesus. This one is entirely abstract.
“Down Stream”, ceramic, glass and stone mosaic by Martha Jackson Jarvis. This is the first panel of Jarvis’ installation incorporated into a fountain. The piece is located in front of the Shirlington Library. Thanks to Komorebi for including this stop on her most excellent arts ride.
I didn't have time during my lunch break to ride down to the Shirlington Library in Arlington where I knew there was a mosaic (glad to see that some folks got various iterations of that one), but there was a nice set of mosaic stepping stones in my neighborhood that were crafted by the home owner. Very nice! These are at a house on the corner of N. Garfield Street and 4th St. N., on the 4th St. Side in Lyon Park, Arlington.
This may not count, but such is life. I only saw this, since it was a church in Rockville at a T-intersection, and I had to stop. I was more focused on dodging the rivers and lakes on the roads.
Colored glass is my favorite material for mosaics. Since stained glass hanging in my own home probably wouldn’t count, I offer up some lovely glass seen in a nearby church.
