I was chatting with some friends as we rode down Route 1 in Maryland this morning, hoping that we might pass a mural with a balloon somewhere along the way to Alexandria, VA. Suddenly, right there in Hyattsville, I remembered that there is an awesome mural of kids playing with water balloons. It's a pity that the mural is not visible unless you enter a tiny parking lot and walk into the alley between two buildings. It truly is a hidden gem.

I had snapped a Re-Max sign early in the ride but I hoped to find something more exciting. Again, serendipity leads one to success.

Also, has anyone else had the experience that the next day after a particular subject is the challenge, you see them everywhere? Today I saw bells all over the place!

One of the lovely corners in my hometown of Takoma Park, named after the founder of the city’s Recreation Department, Belle Ziegler Belle passed away from cancer in 2008; the park was dedicated in 2010. Thank you Belle!

It was too windy to launch his hot air balloon, but Santa was still smiling!

Where am I going to find balloons this time of year, I thought. While taking some photos at the aqueduct remnant in Georgetown I looked over and saw some people we’re having a birthday event and they had balloons!

1/9/2021 -- balloon. Here's my bike at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center mural, which has a hot-air balloon as well as kids holding balloons:



Some backstory on this mural: local artists designed it, and then five youth teams helped paint it during the 2010 Art on the Avenue festival. The mural was supposed to be temporary, with a new mural being painted every two years as part of Art on the Avenue. But the community loved it so much they petitioned to keep it.
