Default 3/13/21 - Black Cat, Ladder, or Umbrella

3/13/21 - Black Cat, Ladder, or Umbrella

National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day - celebrated on March 13 since 2003 - was created in the hope to defy superstitions by having people doing just that and seeing that nothing bad will happen (hopefully!)

On your ride, find one of these three items/words that are associated with good/bad luck:
    1. Black cat - may have started during medieval times when animals with dark feathers or fur signaled death
    2. Ladder - walking under a ladder is considered bad luck because you are breaking up the holy Trinity (God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit)
    3. Umbrella - may have started in ancient Egypt because opening an umbrella where there is no sun would anger the sun god Ra because it was a defiance of natural order

    Happy hunting!

I saw quite a few flowers today: speedwells (little tiny blue flowers forming a carpet across the lawns), hellebore, crocuses, daffodils, (miniature ones too), purple deadnettle, henbit, dandelions, snowdrops, clover, hyacinths. I almost forgot to post, but it was nice to look through what had already been posted so I could see if I had anything new to add. I saw these miniature irises in somebody's yard, and I think I might have to track some down and plant some in my yard - I loved them! If I had seen them yesterday, I might have used them for the 'face' photo.

Okay, this isn't even my religion, but I can't let that one pass. The first one is God the Father, not just God. All three are God.

Some lovely daffodils i found on my ride. I saw snowdrops the other day but didn't have time to hear back over there today; I would have preferred to post a native...

4:26AM isn't the morning already? Or are you in a different time zone these days?

    Rolling Stones - Dead Flowers.
I listened to it and now I'm kinda surprised myself. A rolling stones song I don't particularly like - might be a first.

Purple dead nettle is commonly known as a "weed," but is both edible and an important flower to pollinators because it blooms throughout a good portion of the year. Earlier in 2020, I added it to a few sandwiches and salads because we were trying to cut down on our visits to the grocery store during the pandemic. So I think it's a rather cool plant, and am happy that it has covered a lot of my yard. (But these are not located in my yard - just off the trail about a mile away from home.)

This is very cool. The only weed I find in my yard that I know is edible is purslane. Now I wanna know more!
