Default New Pointless Prize—Honoring MLK, Bettering your Community #anyonecanserve rides

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr (and an ongoing fight for social justice and peace!) I am sponsoring this Pointless Prize. Log miles traveled to and from a community service project or volunteer effort, now through the January 31. Use the hashtag #anyonecanserve and write a brief project description in your Strava activity title, and please post a photo capturing it either in the activity or here on this thread (no need to do both, but you must use the hashtag in order for miles to count).

Everyone wins here but there will be two official prizes given: 1) Most total miles in service 2) Most projects participated in

(Examples, if you need inspiration: riding to drop off food to a pantry or making another type of donation; going to help a friend/neighbor, helping out at a pet shelter... Must be VOLUNTEER work.)

This is short notice in advance of the official holiday on Monday, so we’ll accept “back-dated/edited” posts from Friday January 15, until midnight on Jan 31 2021.

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.”—MLK

    Thanks for participating!

The Friends of the Mt. Vernon Trail held an invasive vine removal event today that was extremely well attended.
I went, along with more than 40 other volunteers.

Final count was 49 volunteers which included someone who was riding by and asked if he could help.

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail has weekly volunteer opportunities which are posted at mountvernontrail.org/events

Don’t let Steve O bogart all the knowledge on what multiflora rose and Japanese honeysuckle look like.

That’s a LOT of vine (and a lot of pulling/cutting)! Good work!

I volunteered at a trail edging and ivy removal event this morning for the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, where I spotted the Forum's own Grand High Potentate. Some photos from the event:

Don't forget, the FOMVT has weekly volunteer events through March. See more details here.

    Thanks for the link!
There are a TON of volunteer opportunities here (you can search by interest or even outdoors vs indoors) at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/volunteercenter/

And for you mountain bikers—M.O.R.E. (MidAtlantic Off Road Enthusiasts) has regular trail-grooming events on their calendar here https://more-mtb.org/pages/get-involved

I need three more volunteers for tomorrow for some Mount Vernon Trail edging. We will be attempting to fix two places where ice sheets form that have caused multiple crashes this winter.
