Help Fix Trollheim Bridge with the Friends of Mount Vernon Trail
The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail are seeking volunteers for multiple events in our ongoing effort to make Trollheim Bridge a little less trollish.
10/31 - Come help us remove the gunk between the board decks that prevents drainage and contributes to mold, mildew and other slippery stuff. - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125567909999
11/14 - You hear those deck boards flopping around when you ride on the bridge? Come help reattach them. - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125570848789
11/19 - Come help replace some deck boards that are rotting. - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125571390409
12/5 - There's a lot of freaking loose boards. This is a second loose board fixing event. If we run out of boards, we'll start flipping some of the boards to extend their life. - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125572507751
We're also raising funds to apply an anti-skid treatment to Trollheim. The super good stuff that will both work and survive heavy use and bad weather is pricey. If you'd like to help, you can contribute at our GoFundMe:

Now just $40 away from our goal in less than 2 days! Out of 14 donors, 4 are named Chris. So if your name is Chris, there’s a lot of peer pressure to donate today at https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-crash-free-trollheim
Thank you to the multiple forum members who have contributed.

I am not named Chris, yet I too feel this is a worthy cause.

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail are bestowing honorary Chris status upon you. Thank you so much for getting us to the goal. I am always blown away by the generosity of forum members and the way that they support the community.
I’m going to add a stretch goal since there are several other bridges that need help. Emm had a crash a few weeks ago near Mount Vernon that damaged her bike but thankfully didn’t result in serious injury. I had a similar crash near Mount Vernon a few years back that bruised some ribs. I’ll keep working to stop bridge injuries as long as people keep supporting it financially and by volunteering.

Update message to the Trollheim Bridge GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-crash-free-trollheim
Wow! We hit our original goal for Trollheim Bridge anti-slip treatment in 48 hours! We met with NPS today and have selected Tuff Grip Extreme paint as the treatment. We have multiple upcoming volunteer days to clean, repair and replace deck boards before applying the treatment. Volunteer opportunity details are at https://mountvernontrail.org/2020/10...-our-gofundme/
Due to popular demand, we're announcing a stretch goal. If we reach $1,350 we think we'll have enough funds to apply non-slip treatment to the transition areas of two slippery bridges in the Mount Vernon District. In addition to the non-slip treatment, we will conduct cleaning of the bridge deck and repair loose and damaged boards.

Thank you for your support! It appears that people are really in to making the bridges safer. Of the FOMVT organizers, one has broken a hip, one has bruised ribs and one has busted both bike and body on a non-Trollheim bridge. I just raised the goal to $2,000 and we'll keep adding bridges as each goal is achieved. It looks like we're going to be busy for a while.
