Trollheim Bridge Cleaning on Saturday, October 10th
The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be giving Bridge 31 a washing and a scrubbing to remove the mold and mildew that contribute to making the bridge slippery when wet. Bridge 31 is located near Theodore Roosevelt Island and is commonly referred to as Trollheim because of it's slipperiness. The event is planned for Saturday, October 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Volunteers will perform the following work:
Using portable sprayers to apply cleaner and water to decking
Using scrub brushes to scrub mold, mildew and debris from decking. This is strenuous work.
Serving as flaggers to warn trail users of a work zone ahead
Sign up to volunteer at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/trollhe...s-124209188025
In other good Trollheim news, the Friends of Mount Vernon Trail have applying a non-skid treatment to Trollheim as part of an annual work plan. There's a few process and procedures to formalize our agreement and conduct compliance for the treatment options. We've initiated these processes with GWMP and are getting a head start on fundraising efforts to purchase the bridge treatment.
I’ll repost the link to the donation page when I sort out an issue with the account.
*I totally stole the picture used for these from the forum and will remove them if the original poster objects.

Doh! There’s an issue on the back end with using the Charity GoFundMe site that I’m working on resolving. Going to edit out the donation link in the interim.

Great group of volunteers for Trollheim cleaning. We scrubbed the S Curve area on the bridge and the portion that leads to TR Bridge. We managed to get a lot of gunk up. If you look in the third picture you can see the difference in the deck from in front of the squeegee to the back of the squeegee.
We should have an event in the near future to perform some replacement and repair on the deck boards.

I went out again yesterday to give the boards an extra scrub and squeegee in the rain and was able to get more gunk up.
I counted bikes coming through in the rain. 21 folks made it through without any falls.
I also started on removing gunk from in between the boards after I noticed the deck wasn’t draining yesterday. Most of the gaps were sealed with twigs and decomposed leaf litter. A picture is below. I hope to get it finished at the top volunteer event.

Way late, but I threw a few in. Saw the article on ArlNow.
I haven't been by here much lately b/c not much has been going on, then I got logged out and could never seem to log back in. It's the Internet's fault, I'm sure. ;0
