Default Milling and Repaving Bluemont Connector Trail in Mid-August 2020

    Forum members,

Arlington Parks is proposing the following MOTs/Detours for work on the Bluemont Connector.

Please sent comment BY JULY 3.

[begin shared text from Arl DPR below)

Wed like to share the draft maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan so that you are aware of the suggested detours that were anticipating to take place during the construction period, and share your feedback to help us ensure the MOT works well for cyclists and pedestrians.

Right now, construction is planned to take five days during mid-August, 2020. As you can see by the attached maps, we have a different draft MOT for the three phases of construction that will take place. All construction will happen between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on each day, allowing bicyclists and pedestrians to use the trail as they normally would outside of those hours.

We plan on communicating the finalized MOT plan and detours to the broader community starting at the end of July, but wanted to see if you or other members of the Bike and Walk Arlington have any feedback on the draft MOT as it stands today. Juan Du (jdu@arlingtonva.us), the project manager CCd in this email, would like to use any thoughts you provide to help inform the final draft.

Thanks for sharing Henry. Rough timing though since Ive noticed an uptick in use of the Bluemont Junction Trail since the closure of all the metro stations west of Ballston. Same kind of synergy we are having with 66 West construction work concurrent with limited shuttle service in lieu of metro. Surely Arlington and Fairfax are coordinating infrastructure master plan schedules?

Any chance we can get a bit of scope creep? The portion of the trail just north of Wilson where you emerge from under the roadway and then reconnect to the W&OD could use some help. Maybe 50-75 feet of asphalt.

Whew! I thought it was just me.

Dana, while I suspect the answer will be no on the scope creep (it has been every time I've asked), can you be more specific about where this is? The Bluemont Connector does not go under a roadway at any point.

If we want to creep that far, I'd also love to have all the root heaves just south of Wilson fixed up, too.

That's not just scope creep, the W&OD Trail is not Arlington's. It belong to NOVA Parks. The good news is NOVA Parks has a nice budget for trail maintenance, so I'd shoot them a line about root heaves and other pavement issue on the trail.

An update from ArCo Parks and Rec

"The schedule update is that the on-call contractor is not available until the week of October 12"
