DC lowers default street speed limit to 20mph

Not much detail on this yet. The same PoPVille post also notes a "slow streets" DDOT initiative that will restrict traffic onto certain streets and slow them down:

Will be interesting to see what streets make the cut (at least 20 miles is both very little compared to some places, but quite ambitious for DC).

This is typical Bowser. No one even knows that any road in DC that doesn't have a speed limit sign is 25 mph, and even fewer people will know that this has changed to 20. THEN subtract out the people who don't care, and this will affect the driving of fewer than 5 people. And those 5 were already super careful drivers to begin with, and unlikely to cause a crash.

Without infrastructure changes, which she steadfastly refuses to allow, this is just a press release, as usual.

Upside: Better chance of triggering it on a bike!

I know bikeDC loves to hate on Bowser, and many complaints are justified. But there is evidence lower speed limits do have an impact, independent of infrastructure changes. This is a good thing. I hope we can do it in Alexandria.
