    Default Alexandria BPAC Virtual Meeting - May 11, 2020

    Hi all- We hope that everyone is safe and healthy.

    Our monthly BPAC meeting will be online. Our agenda includes the following:
    (1) Introduction of APD’s new Traffic Safety Officer, Lieutenant Jason North
    (2) A discussion of Alexandria City and APD steps to implement new Traffic Safety laws, including
    a. HB1705 - Stop for Pedestrians. Stop instead of Yield. This bill also prohibits a driver from passing a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk.
    b. SB 437 - Vulnerable Road User. This bill also prohibits a driver from using a bike lane to pass:
    c. HB1442 - Photo Enforcement: Enables Automated Photo Speed Enforcement in school and work zones.
    (3) A discussion with Cathy Puskar, Land Use Attorney; we have invited Ms. Puskar to describe land development processes in Alexandria and illustrate the processes using North Potomac Yard (NPY) development as an example. An overview of the NPY project is here

    2. Alexandria Police Liaison Discussions – Lieutenant Mike May & Lieutenant Jason North
    • Congratulations and welcome to Lieutenant Jason North
    • Alexandria’s education and enforcement plans for implementing new legislation that will become effective 1 July, namely,
