W&OD is closed between Bluemont & Carlin Springs
W&OD is blocked at the Bluemont Trail and again at the bridge south of Carlin Springs Rd. Four Mile Run Trail is open and can be used to go around. There was work on the trail and next to it north of Carlin Springs Rd and just south of the electrical substation (or that is what it looked like from the Four Mile Run Trail). Joggers were going around the barriers to get out of the region (I didn't see anyone enter it), although it is possible that they entered from Carlin Springs or Kensington and were thus stuck.

This is planned work that is scheduled to last ~ 4 weeks.

Glad they are finally doing this work. However, if it was planned, do not recall any prior notice. Also, no detour signs for those of us not familiar with the local trail systems. It is the little things like these that actually create a bicycle friendly community.

Looks like some tweets were able to get detour signs put up.

W&OD now open going under Carlin Springs Rd. Looks like they added stone to support the trail and re-fit the area that was falling apart with concrete. So, one can now ride or walk through now, allowing for extra social distancing given that both trails under the road are now open.
I do not recall if they fixed the gap in the railing that was under the road (I thought I saw some orange fencing, but maybe not - I was on the 4MRT side looking over while keeping socially distant from other trail users, so did not get the best look)

Hopefully they fixed the drainage issue that broke Sarah Bee's ribs.

Nope, nor did the they replace the railing that has been missing since July. If only there was an organization within Arlington County to raise these issues.
