Default Team 6 Information, Announcements, and Coordination Thread

Hi all! I'm Andrew--your freezing saddles team 6 captain! I'm making this thread as a place where we can post all things team 6. I look forward to meeting you all at the upcoming happy hour where we can hopefully choose a team name.

Nice to meet you last night, Andrew. Thanks for captaining this crew! I didn't spot anyone else from the team last night, so sorry if I missed you. I hope to meet everyone else over the course of the winter! I'm Jon Levine and this is my 5th year of Freezing Saddles. My team name suggestions are either Orange Seal Team 6 or Sealant Team 6. I prefer riding off-pavement, so I usually have tubeless sealant on my mind. And my hands, and my clothes, and the floor of my basement.

    Hi,
I just found out I’m on team 6. This is my first year doing Freezing Saddles. Thanks for volunteering to be our captain Andrew. I prefer road and smooth trail riding. I live in Rockville, MD. I would love to do a group ride. I’m not one to lead though. Are there any other Marylanders on our team?

Hi! This is my third year doing freezing saddles and I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the happy hour last night, but hopefully I'll get to meet all of you soon! I mainly ride on roads and paved trails, but I'm interested in riding more gravel. I also do lots of tandem riding with the Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes (MWABA) if anyone is interested in joining. Linda--I live in D.C. but I spend a lot of time in North Bethesda, so I'd be up for riding in Rock Creek Park or elsewhere in Maryland.

Hi, I'm Andy...Dachs6 here (obviously), and der Bierpuncheur // HPAF on the Strava. This is my 4th BAFS. I tend to crank a lot of miles, split between pavement and gravel. I live in Stuttgart Germany, but can be found riding my bicycle in interesting places when I go TDY (for instance, I am in Limburg, NLD this week). I will be in the DC area next week for only a couple fo days, so CABI is my only option, I will be there 2-8 Feb as well, working, so evenings or really early mornings are my only option for a HH or link up if any of you have it in mind.

A couple of rando (unsolicited, I know) pieces of advice for the team...riding everyday is HUGELY important for team points. My team won last year with only 3 or 4 of us maxing out the team points, but because all but one rider rode everyday, we had more total team points than any other team, not by a lot, but by enough. Also, I calculated that with the new scoring system, while sleazing gets 10 points for a good day, it also gets 20 points (because of the mileage calculation). I am assuming putting in 10 miles (16km for those on metrics, like this guy) a day per rider will maximize us pretty well.

Also, I sponsor the #DirtyBiker prize, because I ride so much gravel, but I will not compete, because it simply isn't fair, since I ride on Gravel 5-6 days a week. But, I encourage it, because it's fun and it makes you a better pavement rider! Good luck, all, and I hope I can cross paths with all (or some) of you.

    Wink Team name

How about "Team 6oz of Sealant"...seems to be the right amount between two 700x33 tires!

And, yes, I also make a huge mess every time I mess around with my tires...

    Hi all,

First time on this for me. Thanks for coordinating! I pretty much only bike for commuting / errands around DC, so not likely to join any group rides. That said, I’m hoping to be reliable for 15 miles of commuting on most weekdays. Will do my best to get out for a mile or two on the weekends if I can.

I’m good with any names. Clearly from my user name I’m aiming for the award for least creative.

Just so you all know, you'll need to join the Strava club for this team, http://www.strava.com/clubs/579209, before you will appear on the leaderboard.

    Hi Shira,
I would love to ride with you. Beach Dr on the weekend is so nice. I'm busy Saturday. Maybe Sunday? Dare I say "If not to cold"...... I will also check out MWABA - sounds like a great volunteer job that would be rewarding, plus fun. Anyone else interested in starting in the Bethesda, MD area?

    Hi all,

I'm pumped to participate in BAFS this year! This is my first BFS, though I joined a participating friend for the awards HH sometime in the last 3 years. Most of my miles are short commutes, and I do some mountain biking and longer road/trail rides on weekends. I'm in Park View (near Petworth) and down for group rides and meetups, but I'm out of town this weekend and next. l like the sealant-themed team names! I've definitely cleaned up my share of sealant messes. Looking forward to meeting up at some point during the competition.

    Cheers,
    Mikael
