Default Cider Ride Nov 2, volunteers, food and drink stops

Hi I spoke with Anna from WABA last week and she mentioned that the 2019 Cider Ride this Saturday still had (at that time) plenty of opportunities for volunteers. On Friday I think they're planning to mark the courses (there are 50-ish, 30-ish, and 10 mile options). On Saturday, ride marshalls are always welcome -- you sign up and listen to the instructions etc., then just help people out on the ride (minor repairs, directions etc.).

Here's the main info page at WABA to sign up for the ride (you should, it's a great route and weather will be perfect), and get info about volunteering. https://waba.org/blog/2019/09/the-cider-ride/

I'd also like to mention some of the food and drink stops along the way.

The first stop is at my wife's bike shop -- there will be Cider and snacks by WABA at the shop, and there's also a gorgeous new Mom's Organic market just down the strip that has a vegan hot food bar. In addition, the strip boasts serviceable Chinese and Pizza carryouts. https://goo.gl/maps/mMAqV26Gp3w5TQxF9

For the 50 milers, the second stop is at Greenbelt Lake park. If the snacks and drinks at the pitstop aren't sufficient, please feel free to visit Greenbelt's historic Roosevelt Center, just a bit further up Crescent Road. There's the New Deal cafe (vegan food), a surprisingly good deli (Generous Joe's) and a Chinese restaurant (Beijing) and Lebanese restaurant (Cedars) as well as a coop supermarket. https://goo.gl/maps/dnmi7ddzjcrtJywP6

Both the 30 and 50 mile routes then converge on the College Park/Hyattsville trolley trail before setting off down the Anacostia River trail back to DC. Along the trolley trail there are great places to get beverages (Riverdale market, Franklins, Streetcar 182, Maryland Meadworks), as well as food (tapas and Vietnamese in Riverdale, Shortcake bakery etc.) https://goo.gl/maps/5JFQ6fAXufmS73dG7

Because calories and hydration are important! Please visit as many of the local establishments as nutritional capacity and sobriety allow, and let them know it was WABA that brought all the fun.

Do you know what time the actual rides start? I see registration at 8:30 but it says start times vary by route, but no start times are listed.

I think you can start pretty much any time after 8:30, since it's an open ride, go at your own pace etc. I usually just meet up with people along the way.

Cider Ride plus Nats Rally? Here's my ride map for Saturday. I'm going to leave the bike shop around 8:30, hit the Cider Ride Start around 9:15-ish, then do most of the Cider ride 50 mile route, with a special diversion down to the Nationals rally, arriving at 3rd and Penn NW around 2:30 or 3pm-ish. -Jeff

I just go my WABA event email -- looks like reg starts at 8:30 but rides start at 9am for the longer route, and 10am for the shorter. Those times aren't rigid though since it's a rolling start. I'm planning to roll out around 9:15-ish I think.

Cool the Cider ride is always great company, and weather looks perfect. My people name is Jeff and I'll probably be wearing a jersey or jacket that says Proteus on it somewhere.
