Route advice: MVT to 24th and N NW
What's the best route from the MVT to 24th and N NW, for someone who isn't very comfortable with city riding? This is the best route I could come up with to maximize use of trails and bike lanes and minimize use of busy streets, but I'd be curious to know if there's a better solution. Thanks.

If you don't mind the TR Bridge, you can stay on the MVT and use that, then take 24th North past GW. It's not bad, except for the pinch close to Pennsylvania. Even then, it's ok, and sidewalk riding is legal.

There's only a few blocks of city streets on that route, so there's not much room for improvement by that criterion. One could certainly walk against traffic along M for two blocks (from RCP & Pennsylvania to 25th & M) if Penn to 25th is a deal-breaker.
If you prefer MVT over Ohio Drive, you could cross at Memorial Bridge (but then of course you have to deal with Mem Circle) or TR Bridge (Trollheim plus the narrow TR Bridge itself). Getting to RCP trail is easy from either. It comes down to personal preference.

The left on 25th and Penn is awkward with the angle of the road and the intersection with L. For a newbie to city riding doing a box turn here is a good idea until he or she gains some comfort with the intersection and changing lanes in traffic.

You're allowed to ride on the sidewalk west of 23rd St NW - no need to walk.
