"Utterly useless cycle lanes: a painted white line with no segregation from traffic = worse than no line." My thought exactly as I was riding up Gallows Rd today. The only caveat to this is that if there is no white line, some drivers may assume this means you shouldn't be there at all, and will no doubt make that abundantly clear in diverse ways as they zoom by.
