I joke all the time about the "orange cones that fix anything" mentality we have toward infrastructure problems, but now that we're a third-world country, we can't even afford those. A sinkhole is forming on the trail above Chain Bridge, and this is the warning system currently in place:

    Hey, FOMVT!

At the curve north of the Humpback Bridge, the big pine tree has a large branch slowly descending onto the trail. Even I had to maneuver creatively to get under it this morning, so you know it's low. I'm hoping you have the number of the right person at NPS who can take care of it in between the placing of July 4th port-a-potties.

Some broken glass on 4MR right around Mt. Vernon Ave bridge; will try to bring a whisk broom home with me tonight and clean it up.

Shades of Freezing Saddles Quick Picks...
Whisk broom secured at Velo Cafe/District Hardware this morning; then three shattered bottle messes along 4MRT cleaned up this evening, with a make-shift “dustpan” to scoop up the shards, courtesy of the elegant ladies of Sabados Internacionales...

I got a little whisk-broom happy... after the final glass clean-up heading home (glass in the eastbound lane of 4MRT as it descends under W. Glebe), right as I turned off the Walter Reed portion of trail, to enter the Barcroft Park portion of 4MRT -- I decided that the loose, small gravel piled on the trail (right at the right-hand turn into the park / just before that little stone bridge) -- needed to be cleared up... I've taken that turn once or twice, feeling my wheels skid out a little in the loose gravel... So I swept all of it off to the side of the trail, finding the actual edge of the trail pavement in the process.
I wonder if there are Arlington Parks-operated "road cleaner" machines, sized for trails? It would have made much faster work than my little hand-broom

I suppose due to our writing in, they have now put an orange cone that fixes everything on top of the hole in the pavement.

And not really a cone, but a larger barrel, so they must think it's really important.
