Default Bicycle Fun Club: C&O Overnight Bike Trip - June 1st

It was so much fun last year that, we're doing it again! I have reserved Lockhouse 25 on the C&O canal for Saturday, June 1st. I'm offering an open invite for anyone that wants to join. Lockhouse 25 is nicely furnished but it does not have electricity or plumbing. There is a portapotty outside that was well maintained last year and there is a water pump just down the canal (it's well water treated with iodine). The lockhouse has 8 beds available but if we have more folks than that there is plenty of space for sleeping bags.

I plan to meetup at Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown and bike from there. The ride is 30 miles from Dogtown Bakery to the Lockhouse and is at a chatty pace. If you're not able to make it for the rollout it's okay to meet us there. If you want to just come to hang out that evening (or bring everyone coffee on Sunday morning) that's also okay. (The Cycling Classic Challenge is that morning which I know makes it tough for folks riding or volunteering.) We spent a lot of time last year sitting in the dining room exchanging stories and it was nice.

If you need help figuring out how to carry a sleeping back and other stuff on your bike, ask here.

    Details:
    Date: Saturday, June 1st
    Gather Time: 11 a.m.
Gather Location: Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown for coffee/lunch - http://dogtagbakery.wixsite.com/dogtagcatering
    Rollout: Noonish

I hope you'll be able to join.

The thread from last year includes some pictures and discussion after the ride (hopefully no rain on the ride home this year).

I have an event on Saturday, but if I can get out of bed in time, I may come meet you guys at the lockhouse and ride back with you. Unless the weather is fabulous. Then I may meet you at Riley's lock and wave as you ride past then go mountain biking!

Regrets for this year. And I was hoping to improve my performance of last in to the lockhouse. Yeah, no rain would be helpful. See what you can do about that.

I totes would've joined you if not for the out-of-town guests we are hosting. Have fun!

I'm volunteering at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic in the morning, but like Sunyata, perhaps I can ride out and meet at the lockhouse.

I'm going to a <geek out here> Crossword puzzle tournament (for beginners and everyone) that day , June 1. But could possibly bike out later that day, if Steve O and/or Sunyata want to ride together . Will follow along and see if that works out. Thanks Judd!

Dang, I'm going to be out of town. Once again, no cold beer delivery by kayak.

City biker here - what's the trail like going out there? Is it manageable on 700x32 tires on a Giant Escape hybrid bike?

32s work great on the canal and is what Iíll be on. Thereís a few bumps and potholes along the way.
