Ride of Silence 2019 — May 15, Benjamin Banneker Circle SW
For those who aren't familiar, the Ride of Silence is an annual event, held in hundreds of locations worldwide on the third Wednesday of May at 7pm local time, to honor the lives of riders injured or killed by traffic violence and remind motorists and public officials that people on bikes have a legal right to public roadways. For more on the history of Ride of Silence and other locations worldwide—over 300 in 2018—see http://www.rideofsilence.org/
In DC, we will especially remember the riders killed in the last year:
Malik Habib, 19, killed June 23 on H St NE — https://dcist.com/story/18/06/25/cyc...reet-ne-after/
Jeffrey Hammond Long, 36, killed July 8 on M St NW — https://dcist.com/story/18/07/09/cyc...n-m-street-nw/
Carlos Sanchez-Martin, 20, killed Sept. 21 on Dupont Circle — https://dcist.com/story/18/09/21/rescue/
Tom Hollowell, 64, killed Sept. 24 on Constitution Ave NW — https://dcist.com/story/18/09/24/cyc...-and-run-near/
This year's ride will gather at Benjamin Banneker Park in SW (officially 429 L'Enfant Plaza SW, 20024, or use the more accurate and (bonus!) appropriate What3Words address Live.Cargo.Saving), and ride through all four quadrants of DC, ending at the John A. Wilson Building on Pennsylvania Ave.
There are no sponsors and no registration fees. Please try to arrive early so we can leave at 7.
We will ride in silence at a slow pace, no more than 12 mph, with lights on, like a funeral procession.
This may be superfluous on this forum, but if you don't have a bike, there are several Capital Bikeshare stations nearby—and the route passes many others, in case you need to change bikes along the way.

Hi my friends... I'm just bringing this important posting to the top. The Ride of Silence is tomorrow night (Wedn the 15th) starting at 7 pm at 429 L'Enfant Plaza SW in DC. Wear white if you can ... or red if you or a family member have been hurt by traffic violence. Feel free to bring flowers to put on the ghost bikes...for Dave, Tom, Carlos, Jeffrey, and Malik. Don't forget to bring lights for your bike.
See you tomorrow night.
Hugs, w&w.
