An alternative if you are continuing on the Custis is to cross the bridge at Ohio over I-66 and take 14th and 11th east across Patrick Henry and turn right on Kennebec to Fairfax and the Custis trail. I hesitate to suggest this alternative because I would prefer to keep you riffraff on the south side of the freeway.

Might as well just do the 10th Rd/Manchester hills. If it's still going on in May, stop by my house for a cup of coffee.

I was scouting routes like this around the detour today and saw the sign on the trail-block fence set off the trail says the detour will start February 18, not 11. Any more updates we should know about?

So, on Sunday there was a sign on the W&OD at the planned southern cutoff about the trail closing on the 18th. I gather that it did not close yesterday then?

I just rode by it last night, and it was still open. I assume it will remain open through Presidents Day.

When I went by this evening there was a road closed sign at the intersection with the Custis trail blocking further progress west bound. I wasn't travelling through that part of the W&OD, so I can't confirm that it's actually blocked in the construction zone, but signs are up.

The trail was still intact and even had been brined past the detour signs about 5:45 pm. I went through as usual along with FFG.

When I went by Sunday, signs were up, areas were taped off for equipment, but still open. I gather that's still the case. They *should* get rolling on this repair *soon*. Erosion is already undermining the trail bed in one spot. And today's weather might make matters worse.
