Lissa, Just the opposite! You should be proud for any day you ride more than one mile! I believe everyone on our team is doing their best, and that every ride of a mile or more makes an important benefit for our team. If we all ten of us did a sleaze ride (or more) a day, the TEN points plus point miles add up faster than you might think!

I challenge all SLEET 16ers: (At least) a sleaze a day!

Alan, Wow! Congratulations on some fantastic riding and 836 cumulative individual points (as of today, Saturday morning) enough to earn a NUMBER 2 spot on the BAFS individual leaderboard. I see your just ahead of my good friend, Chris W, who is also an amazing athlete. Friendly advice...watch your rearview mirror!

Everyone, Some great riding this week! The snow and aftermath was a challenge to us all, and we came through shining.

    Dave

A chance to meet up and ride together! See below (Komorebi's Dumpling ride)
    Sleet 16s,
Get to know one another and have a fun ride. Join us Feb 2 for coffee at the beginning or anywhere along the route-(send a PM to Komorebi to let her know).
Details, below and on the Forum: Thread: Rides, gatherings, and events for FS 2019

    • Meet for coffee at 8:30 a.m., Whole Foods Pentagon City, 520 12th Street S. If you're feeling especially brave, try the dumplings there.
    • Roll out from Whole Foods at 9:00 a.m. and ride to Falls Church.
    • Be at Mark's Duck House, 6184 Arlington Blvd., when it opens at 10:00 a.m. Order dumplings and other dishes from traditional dim sum carts.
    • Ride some of the new bike lanes in Annandale to get to A&J, 4316 Markham St. Enjoy dumplings and other Chinese small plates.
    • Ride more of the new bike lanes in Annandale to get back to the W&OD.
    • Finish the ride at District Dumplings in South Arlington, 2923 S. Glebe Rd.

    Have questions? Read on.

Why dumplings? As bikedavid pointed out, there's nothing like a steaming hot plate of dumplings on a cold winter day.

What's the route? https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29186688. About thirty miles, a mix of trails and roads. Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop. All FS participants and friends are welcome.

What should I bring? Bring a lock and cash (A&J is cash only).

Can I join the ride along the way? Sure. Send me a PM with your email address so that I can temporarily add you to my Garmin LiveTrack. You'll get an email when we start riding, with a link to see where we are in real time.

What if I'm vegetarian? A&J and District Dumplings have both meat and vegetarian dumplings, as well as other vegetarian dishes. I can't find the dim sum menu for Mark's Duck House online, but there should be vegetarian options.

What if the weather is bad? My Asian food rides have a history of being epically soggy. I'm hoping that the third time is the charm, but watch this thread for updates.

Why February 2? This is the last Saturday before the Chinese New Year, which starts on February 5 this year. Dumplings are traditionally eaten to bring good luck in the new year.

Howdy teammates (that's how people out west talk).

Sorry I've been AWOL, but I've been having a fun time out on the road. I do keep looking at the weather back home, and I do feel bad (although, I am really glad I left when I did). Hopefully I'll be back in the DC area sometime during Freezing Saddles and try to work out some type of team ride. In the meantime, hang tough!! And don't worry. It's not like we're going to win much money if we come in first.

    Hi folks,

I’m Annie, grateful new addition to your team. Don’t get too excited, I’m furloughed and pregnant so I’m not getting those commuting miles and not super motivated to spend my time off in the cold on a bike, but I’m good for at least SOME points since biking is still my main mode of transportation. Happy to be here!

Howdy, Annie. Welcome aboard. I'm Alan (probably the most worthless co-captain on the planet - but at least I do check the forums once in a while).

Default Update on Team Membership: Thanks, Don! Welcome Annie!

Annie, thanks for your reply and a hearty welcome to our team! It doesn't take much to succeed at Freezing Saddles: Do your best to ride (at least) one mile a day, and the SLEET 16s team will start climbing the team leader board!

About Don Harvey: Don has graciously agreed to give up his spot on the team, (hence Annie's arrival as our newest teammate).

Here's my recent email conversation with Don:

Dave. No problem. I understand. Good luck. Don.

Don, Thanks for your reply. I hope you have a lot of fun on your cruise, and I look forward to eventually meeting you, and maybe riding together sometime.

Yes, unfortunately, stationary bikes don't qualify for participation in BAFS. Considering that you misunderstood this rule and that you sent your bike to Korea and won't be riding until the end of February, I'm going to ask Chuck Penna to allow someone else who's willing and able to ride now to have your place on our team.

This isn't personal and I wish you the best of luck,

HiDavid. When I sign up for freezer Saldels. I didnt see anything about the stationary bike. Since I knew I was moving soon. I will be riding again but not till Late Feburary. I am riding but just stationary. I am on a cruise now and will be back in Va next week to finish my move to Korea. Good luck. Don.
