LAST MINUTE TEAM X FLASH MOB @ PORT CITY BREWING 2NITE!!!! 5:30PM - WEATHER IS GREAT.

There are very few moves to this flash mob dance:

    1. Procure a libation
    2. Raise glass
    3. Drink from glass
    4. Put glass down
    5. Repeat

No time for a video clip, you can do this. Doesn't even have to be in unison.

BAFS 2019 Strava Art Group Ride--Leviathan!

All are invited (of course, Team 16: SLEET 16s) to join in a fun Strava art ride in Arlington on Sunday, Mar 10th. Meet 915 AM at Best Buns in Shirlington, for coffee/snack, if desired before the ride. Wheels rolling from Shirlington at 10 AM. Drawing start and end is at at the intersection of W&OD and Carlin Springs Rd. You can meet us there at ~10:20 AM and complete the 12-mile art ride in about an hour's time. No drop; average speed 9-12 mph. There are a few techniques I can show you about doing Strava Art, we will have to cross a couple of parks, a staircase, and a sidewalk for a stretch along a one-way street. Whether you are an experienced Strava artist or a newbie, it will be fun for all. After, if we're hungry for lunch, we can ride to Ballston for lots of possibilities.

    SUMMARY

    • You can meet us there at ~10:20 AM

A Sunday ride sadly means that Shortcake Bakery won't be open, so I'm pushing the start time back by half an hour and recommending that people bring snacks. Otherwise, the route and stops remain the same. See details below. If you're planning to imbibe on the rescheduled ride, please let me know. Thanks.

In conjunction with rumipumi (aka Mrs. Maryland Meadworks), I'm organizing a bakeries, brews, and booze ride on Sunday, March 3. All are welcome to join.

    The plan:
-- Meet at 10:30 a.m. at Velo Cafe in DC, purveyor of local coffee, Acme Pie, and other excellent baked goods.
-- Roll out at 11:00 a.m. and take the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to Maryland Meadworks.
-- Do a loop up through U.Md., along Lake Artemesia, and back down to Hyattsville.
-- Visit Sangfroid Distillery (just opened December 2018; $10/person for tour and tasting) and Streetcar 82 Brewery (first deaf-owned brewery on the east coast). Neither place serves food, but Vigilante Coffee and Franklin's are nearby if people need nibbles.
-- Since there's nothing like pie to soak up that alcohol, roll back along the ART to Dangerously Delicious Pies on H Street.
    -- Return to Velo Cafe.

The route is about 37 miles, mostly trails but also some roads, at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29290890. Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop. Nondrinkers are welcome too.

Directions to the start: the Velo Cafe at District Hardware is located at 730b Maine Ave SW, in the Wharf. The nearest metro is Waterfront. If you can't find street parking near the Wharf, it's pretty easy to park at Hains Point and bike over.

If you'd like to join us along the way, let me know and I'll see if I can get my Garmin LiveTrack working.

Depending on your stomach/liver capacity, you might be able to score points for four separate pointless prizes: coffee, pastries, beerneuring, and spiriteuring.

If you think you'd like to imbibe, please PM me or respond on this thread so that I can let the good people at Maryland Meadworks, Streetcar 82, and Sangfroid know how many people to expect.

Bring snacks, money, and a lock. And a metro card if there's a chance you might want to metro home.
I plan to be there and will join at Velocafe.

Weather update for Sunday's Bakeries, Brews, and Booze ride: we've got the classic good news and bad news. The good news is that the temperatures are likely to be warmer than what the forecasters were predicting earlier this week. The bad news is that it's likely to start raining in the afternoon.

Sunday is the last day I can lead this ride before the end of Freezing Saddles, so I'm inclined to go ahead despite the forecast. Depending on the weather, I might cut out the middle third of the ride -- i.e., after visiting Meadworks, we'll go straight to Sangfroid Distilling and Streetcar 82. Bring your rain gear. And if the forecast makes you change your mind about coming, no worries.

If the forecast takes a turn for the worse and I need to cancel the ride entirely, I'll post an update here no later than 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.

Fingers crossed that doesn't apply to group rides she's joining-not-leading...?!
