Default How can you tell if a used bike fot sale is stolen (or not)?

A friend found a bike on Craigslist. It looks to me like a too good to be true situation. The seller says he likes fixing up old bikes and selling them. He has a storage unit full of them. How can I tell if this sale is legit?

You can look up if they have been reported stolen here. Of course, many are not reported or not put into this particular database. I don't know if the police put bikes in here from police reports.

Funny, but I've sold many an honestly acquired bike on C-List.
