So it would have certainly been a good thing if it had been included in the project. I find it frustrating that opportunities to extend projects a small amount to fix additional problems or issues almost never seem to happen. It's got to be a lot more expensive to come back and fix the short section from the end of the moguls up to Lee Highway separately. Why not include it?
They seem bent on repaving the worst sections every couple of years, letting areas that suck a little less slide until they are the worst, then repaving them. To be fair, this was a bigger job, as your pics from the project attest. Also, the Custis could sit untouched for a decade and still be better than the majority of the MVT, so I shouldn't complain.

That is in accord with my experience.

The FFX county parkway trail is on a cycle where they maintain the worst parts every 30 years (budget permitting) so yeah, could be worse.

This is a budgetary problem. Next time you see an elected official, tell them it's important to fund capital maintenance of the trails at a level to fix trails before they fail -- roughly double what they fund now.

Another reason to have a fat bike.
