Anyone have any experience on the towpath since the storms/rain?

Rootchopper reports that it is currently "quite muddy". He detoured off of the C&O for the start of his cross country trip. https://rootchopper.wordpress.com/20...-canal-anyway/

Lorcom Lane in Cherrydale is starting to be repaved. Inbound the bike lane from maybe Miliarty (guess) down to Vacation (confirmed) is gone and the pavement is rough.

If anyone wants to recon the C&O from Georgetown to the Marsden Tract campground, and the campground in particular (i.e. how muddy it is, if there's any dry wood), the Kidical world would appreciate it!

I'll try to hit that part of the C&O tomorrow morning, but won't be able to provide any info on the campground itself.

Default C&O & Marsden Tract conditions

I took the CCT from Georgetown up to Fletcher's Cove and then hopped on the towpath, so I can't speak to the earliest section of the towpath. The section I covered was in good condition, with the occasional large puddle (water or mud), but a single bike could easily go around. A trailer or trailer-cycle might be stuck going through. The worst section is by the detour shortly before going under the beltway, where you'll have to go through some deep, wet mulch (but it's a bike dismount detour anyways). I did end up scoping the campsites out. #4 and #5 looked fine, and #1 was in use this morning, so presumably decent as well. I didn't go further back, looked like a large muddy section torn up by vehicles, but certainly passable once you're out there.

    Mulch detour (going eastbound):

So, despite the fact that the trail and the campground were fine, we cancelled the camping portion because the forecast was for dangerous thunderstorms, and we would have had no shelter within 3 miles.
