Route looks like it was the same as last year. Some riding on the Whitehurst and on 395. I'm planning on volunteering this year.

Just noticed that the volunteer page is open. I had a blast when I volunteered as a "mobile mechanic" before, so I signed up to do it again!

Should one have actual mechanic skills to do this? I can replace a flat and tighten bolts, but that's about it.

No - all you need to do is replace a flat - there were flats for days.

fun story - as soon as I got there someone came up to me and showed me that something in their wheel was broken. Their pedals turned and the chain was turning the cassette but the wheel wasn't moving. I directed them to one of the actual mechanics who knew what they were doing (and I'm pretty sure they said there was nothing they could do to fix it). After that, it was just flats (and one person who couldn't get their kickstand up)

Also when I did it (which was in 2016, I was out of town in 2017) there was a mandatory meeting beforehand where they showed us how to fix a flat.

Additionally, figure out how to work a quick release skewer, and I have a feeling you'll have 90% of the mechanical skills necessary for Bike DC.

I signed up to volunteer as a course marshal. Mostly since it didn't require as early of a start as some of the other options

I volunteered to be a mobile mechanic. The issues I saw the past two years were mostly flats.

I registered as a mobile mechanic volunteer as well. Hoping for nothing that severely tests my abilities.

Judging by how well you rode Judd’s Presidents Day ride with a misaligned rear wheel on your SS, I think you will do just fine!
