Nah. I love freezing saddles and I love the friends and connections I made because of it, but I'm too competitive to enjoy it normally (aka I'm a crybaby infant that hates to lose).

Lame. Last year you would have only had to ride 6,161 miles in 78 days to win. That's only an average of 79 miles per day.

But, also I feel your pain. I have the same stupid competitiveness that made me want to throw my bike into the Potomac last year.

After the last two cold days I thought I would check-in and see if there had been any discussion about 2018 yet!

Looking forward to this year and getting to some more social events.

Thanks to all of you who are deep in the planning process.

So all I need is an appropriate title. Freezing Saddles Tyrant has a nice ring to it.

I propose the following scoring system based on the key goals of 1) encouraging people to ride their bikes even when the weather is bad and 2) building our community of bicycling friends.

    - Days and Miles per MASS (Median Adjusted Scoring System*)
    - 50 bonus points for each different FS rider you ride with (according to Strava)

This system combines the goals of FS and should be automatable (Strava reports who I ride with, so I assume the data is available).
Last year I rode with about 15 different other FS participants at least once, which is 750 points. Strangely, Strava only showed me riding with 4 riders at the FSLNHPP. People who went on the President's Day ride would have done very well, possibly earning 1000 points. You only get points once for each unique rider, so even if you ride with your same buddy every day, it's just 50 points.

Perhaps extra bonus for teammates would be good, too.

(*This adjust scores such that more points are awarded on gnarly days than on clement days. It has little effect on every-day riders since they ride every day. There's a thread from last year with discussion of this and other ideas: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/forumd...ng-Competition. I based my Badassiest and Pusillanimousiest Pointless Prizes on this system.)

    I can hear it coming....

    "Buh-ut I duh-on't like puh-eeple. Wuh-eye do I get puh-unished?"
    "I luh-ive far away. I cuh-an't go on the ruh-ides."

There is no punishment for not riding with people. Those who do, and support building the community, earn more points. As they should.
This system is no more biased than allowing people who are retired or have cushy jobs to ride centuries on weekdays earn more points. Each player can earn points for his or her team in the way that is most comfortable. Ride on more days and ride farther, or find ways to ride with more people. Both are equally valuable activities and both allow one to earn points.
