Default October 2017 Road and Trail Conditions

Other than new glass on the MVT over the weekend, nothing to report. It's been reported to NPS.

Took the sidewalk on the south side of Army Navy from the Doubletree to Joyce. Wow, the eastern part of that has a really crappy sidewalk.

And the ramp at the mall parking lot was covered in glass. :-(

Construction crews had Maine Ave blocked down to two lanes this morning. Riding west, you can usually move into the far right lane after 9th, but it was coned off and filled with vehicles this morning, so riders had to take the lane in the main two travel lanes. Hopefully, it was just for this morning, but I guess we'll see. Also, the sidewalks along that stretch are mostly blocked for repairs, so the street is pretty much the only option.

I got a reply this morning about Army Navy Drive -- the bike lanes will be back eventually.

    "Good morning,
I totally understand your frustration with the unmarked pavement condition of the road.
We are in the process of lay out and Re-stripping soon ! the micro seal coat requires some time to fully cure.
    I will keep you posted."

I received a nearly identical reply to my e-mail. No date, despite the query as to when the lane markings will return.

When I rode at 11 AM on Van Buren on the portion of the W&OD which is not really the W&OD the bridge was closed to cars and some workers were milling about. There was no problem getting through on a bike since one could easily go around the barriers and none of the workers were paying attention. .

    Default Trails, Leaves, and Water

Quick note, and most know this, but this is a public service announcement. Some poor soul leaning into a turn, going hard, went down in front of me today. Not too hard, as he slid onto the grass (as opposed to meeting pavement straight down) but it was flesh wound. When sections of the trails are covered with dense, ridden over, packed down leaves after a rainy night and misty morning, it pays to take to the turns and bridges slow. I made the same error years ago and vowed to respect and enjoy the fall foliage with my bike vertically aligned.

I was having the hardest time Tuesday, which I attributed to the wet leaves. Then I got to work and realized I'd been riding with my front skewer totally wide open. I even bunny hopped like that.

There was glass on the bridge over the CC Connector when I passed through at about 0540 this morning. Already reported to USPP
