Dockless Bikeshare - The Dockpocalypse Nears

I and Planning classmates at Virginia Tech's National Capital Region center are studying dockless devices—yes, they're mostly scooters now, but we're also interested in thoughts on dockless (e-)bikes—so if you spend any time in Rosslyn, please take our survey and let us know what you think of them.

Dockless bikeahare started in DC today. Saw a Mobike in the wild at World Bank today.

Well, this thread is over two years old now. DC announced today that they're limiting dockless scooter operators to just 4 for 2020 but the total number of devices will increase 60%. Bolt, Bird, Lime and Razr Scooters will no longer be permitted in 2020.

Jump, Lyft, Skip, and Spin will be permitted to operate scooters. Jump and a company called HelBiz will be permitted to operate dockless bikes.

Well, it's been nearly 5 years since dockless bikeshare came to the DMV and much has changed. Helbiz recently started placing e-bikes in Alexandria. Unlike other bikes, they appear to have a mid-drive motor with an IGH in the back. The wheels had solid rubber tires like the old Mobikes did. I didn't try one out because it looked like it was small like the original dockless bikes.
