Four-Mile Run Trail Detour -- Good News (Hopefully!)

Just got off the phone with Kevin at Arlington Parks. Final "walk through" of the project between Route 1 and Mount Vernon Ave will happen on Monday (24 July). Barring any issues, that section will be re-opened shortly thereafter and detour removed. Keep your fingers crossed!

Also requested he put a work order in to smooth out the two "speed bumps", which are roughly 100 yards apart, just east of the 395 underpass. (They're not really speed bumps of course, they are actually badly executed cold patches that were done to address "settling" in a couple of seams after construction of the trail.) Hope he follows through.

Never! Actually, since the Wayne F. Anderson Bikeway runs in Arlington from the intersection of S Glebe Rd/W Glebe Rd along the Four Mile Run Trail to Mount Vernon Ave before heading into Alexandria through Four Mile Run Park, it will still be in use albeit at a lower volume. Some very helpful person (truthfully, not me) added Strava segments for it showing the full bikeway here: https://www.strava.com/segments/15151088

It *shouldn't* fall back into obscurity. The Alexandria side has proven to be a very pleasant detour, and one that lets you get close to the wetlands. One problem though- a rather precarious dropoff on one end of the creek bridge. (Alexandria folks- has the city addressed this yet?)

Follow-up call from Arlington Parks. Contractor "owns the site" until 31 October. Still has work to do including installation of public art and some fencing. Could re-open earlier, but worst case should be NLT 31 October.

Should be nice when finished though, and agree with a previous post -- while the worst part of the detour is the ramps and bridge over 4MR on Mount Vernon Ave, the rest of the detour is kinda nice!
