OK, I was on the fence for awhile, but just signed up for the full 50 States route! The start is only a mile from my house, so I have no excuse. Would love to join your group Kitty! And you all have nice home state jerseys. The bad news is I don't have a jersey from my home state to wear. I'm from NY, specifically Long Island, and I've looked around from time to time for a nice-looking Long Island-themed jersey (nautical, beach, lighthouse, etc) but haven't found anything. Then again I've lived in DC so long I consider it my true home.

I knew you'd ride. Resistance is futile. Be prepared for a long day. Stop signs and traffic lights slow everyone down. A lot.

The course for the this year's ride has been released. They will have to rename it the 49 States ride, since it doesn't actually go on Oregon Avenue, but only crosses it. I was wondering what they planned to do with the Bingham Drive closure in Rock Creek Park. The route goes along the bike path along Bingham and Oregon, which could be a problem with a lot of cyclists. I'm surprised they didn't route it via Wise Road instead.

Yeeep, its been given a nice (new) name of the Oregon Trail/Path something like that.

In other news, about 10 hours before ride start I had to fix my first flat. It seems the patch-job I did on one of my road wheels didn't hold, so I had to install my spare tube. Oh course this was after I went to the bike shop to by CO2 carts (which had since closed). If anyone has a spare that will fit 23s, I'll buy it off of you.

Aside from all of that, I'm excited by the number of folks who want to ride with me! I will be using ride marshal prerogative to set my own pace on riding and breaks, so if you ever want to ride ahead or rest longer, I understand. If we can keep the crew together, awesome! If not, let us reconvene at the end over beer and food.

Just threw a spare 20-25 tube in my bag for you Kitty. I also will have a patch kit on me tomorrow.

Thanks Judd! This is one of those rides where being without is asking for it. Hopefully we won't need it though... *fingers crossed*

Default 50 States Cue Sheet/Ride with GPS

Yes, the cue sheet can be a bit bothersome. However, this year WABA had a Ride with GPS route. Using it was wonderful! I still looked at the cue sheet to get a preview of coming turns, but mostly relied on the Ride with GPS route. My phone battery, set to low-powered, even lasted the whole ride.

To entertain ourselves along the way, our group tried to think of a song for every state. Here’s what we came up with. This was based on the song catalogs in our heads, no Google. Let me know if you have suggestions for the blanks!

    Wyoming:
    California: California Dreamin’
    New Hampshire:
Rhode Island: Rhode Island is Famous for You / Erin McKeown version
    Vermont: Moonlight in Vermont
New York: Everyone’s Your Friend in New York City / They Might Be Giants
    Indiana: Gary, Indiana
Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania 6 5,000 OR Motownphilly
New Jersey: (any Bruce Springsteen song?)
    Louisiana: Cotton Fields / Creedence
    Delaware:
    Maryland:
    Washington:
    Virginia:
Maine: Poland Springs theme song (sorry, Maine!)
    Ohio:
Alabama: Sweet Home Alabama OR Oh, Susannah
    Mississippi: Mississippi Goddamn
    Texas: The Stars at Night...
Massachusetts: Dirty Water / The Standells
    Minnesota:
    Kentucky: My Old Kentucky Home
    South Carolina:
    North Carolina:
    Tennessee: Rocky Top
    Oklahoma: Oklahoma! (obviously)
Florida: Welcome to Miami / Will Smith
    West Virginia: Country Road
    Montana:
    South Dakota:
Michigan: (there must be some fight song?)
    Hawaii:
    Illinois: Sweet Home Chicago
    Kansas:
    Iowa: Give Iowa a Try
    Arkansa:
    Colorado: Rocky Mountain High
Missouri: Meet me in Saint Louis
    Georgia: Georgia on My Mind
    North Dakota:
    Alaska:
    Oregon:
Utah: (there must be something from the Book for Mormon?)
    Nevada: Viva Las Vegas
    Wisconsin:
    Nebraska: Nebraska / Springsteen
    Arizona:
    New Mexico:
    Idaho:
Connecticut: Connecticut / Bing Crosby & Judy Garland version

And yes, I have already used it for a strava ride title.
