I didn't look at the printed Vision Zero pledge forms that City staff had at Bike To Work Day but it's on the website. I find it generally reasonable, but does this point rub anyone else the wrong way?

"I pledge to obey the rules of the road when walking and biking."

Why only for for those modes?

Worth noting: web searches show that some other cities, including New York, DC, and Portland OR have Vision Zero pledges. None of them include provisions that don't apply to people driving. (DC actually leads with a rules of the road item, but they explicitly apply it "to walking, biking, and driving".)

Also, what the heck is this?

"I pledge I will always be responsible for my own safety and the safety of others."

I'm responsible "for my own safety"? Me versus a two ton SUV --driven by the person whom this pledge does not ask to follow the three foot passing law to provide a margin of error-- and I'm responsible for my own safety?
