Send a Quick Email in Support of Washington Blvd Bike Lanes
Today is the last day to submit email comments on the proposed new Washington Blvd Bike Lanes from East Falls Church to Westover. Supportive comments are URGENTLY needed. This project is in serious danger and if it is scrapped or converted to sharrows it sets a terrible, terrible precedent for future projects.
Take 90 seconds and fire off an email to dgoodman@arlingtonva.us. It doesn't have to be long, it doesn't have to be detailed. A few points you might want to make:
- These lanes would connect to many other bike lanes in the area, enhancing the network.
- These lanes would connect a Metro Station to a transit-poor commercial area.
- Providing people with alternatives to driving takes cars off the road and reduces competition for parking spaces.
- Sharrows are not for arterial roads and do not measureably improve safety.
Do it today.

I sent an email highlighting all of the tax money Arlington would generate if I could more easily get to Westover Market's Wall of Beer.

Done.
I pointed out how I use the small bit of bike lane on Washington Blvd now and would love to use more of the road rather than hitting the trail to run errands to East Falls Church and Falls Church (although that I love the trail too!). Since I live in the general area, hopefully they will weigh my comments as both from a resident and cyclist.

Would be glad to help you help them generate said tax revenue in their beer garden. 🍺

Thanks for the update although sorry to see it is in danger.
I even asked my senior neighbor for his support. I think that apart from (and possibly including) my mom, he cares most about my safety. He can't let go of the 1970s bike in storage so maybe we'll get him out there some day.

Hmmm... Since Cap City is not really "large party friendly" anymore, I wonder if Third Thursdays could happen here instead...
Oh, and email sent.

chris_s,
Why do you believe the bike lane proposal is in danger?
Might help with messaging to know what argument is putting it on play.
