And another one this morning. I found a big sign lying face down across the sidewalk this morning. My first impulse was to stand it up. But when I did, I discovered it was a sign saying, "Sidewalk under construction. Use other side." Kind of reminded me of the Epimenides paradox ("All Cretans are liars."); if the sign was up, you couldn't use the sidewalk because the sidewalk was under construction, but if the sign was down, you couldn't use the sidewalk because the sign was blocking it. However, I managed to put the sign face down again, then drag it onto the grass so it would no longer block the sidewalk.

Wheels&Wings: I want to check on your criteria for this prize. I see it says "technical assistance," but sometimes we have the chance to help riders by replacing technology that failed them.

Case in point, last night returning from the BAFSHH I encountered a rider standing with his bike in the dark (no lights) on the ramp up to the Roosevelt Bridge, looking a bit disoriented and fighting with a mobile device. I slowed to see if he was okay, and he asked if the bridge would get him to DC. I reassured him it did and explained here in DC it would spit him out and from there is was confident to continue.

It occurred to me as we parted ways, it might have been a Bike Samaritan moment. I know it's not fixing a flat, but I feel like I helped a bit, so I thought I'd check. If not, that's fine, I feel good regardless.

HUGE thanks to CBGAnimal who hung out with me for almost 2 hours this morning after a harrowing experience. My bike is totaled but fortunately, I'm ok. I'm extremely grateful for CBGAnimal's friendship and support this morning. It should be noted that I made her miss the Crystal City coffee club.... with lordofthemark's cookies, too!

I could nominate our cycling community, the dozens of people who stopped to help and have offered well wishes and assistance. I am truly humbled and appreciative for the outpouring of concern, thank you all. It's THE reason I love BAFS.

Another reason to nominate CBGAnimal... here's a pic of her ... um... offering advice to the ACPO about the dangers posed to cyclists when vehicles block the crosswalk! Note the location of the ACPO car.
