2017 Freezing Saddles Pointless Prizes
Since the powers-that-be in their infinite folly have decreed that I am eligible to register for this annual foolishness again, I am proposing a subset for the inevitable Beerneuring Challenge. The winner of my challenge will be the FS 2017 participant who can document having the the most variety of beers produced in Germany during the challenge period. Variety includes different types of beers as well as different breweries. There is no requirement that any of the beers actually be acquired in Germany. I will not be eligible to win the prize, but will try to set a good example.
The basic rules:
1. The beer must be by a German brewery or one licensed to produce a German branded beer.
2. The participant must have purchased said beer, but does not have to have personally drunk it.
3. Only beers purchased on/after 12:00:01 am 1/1/2017 and before/on 3/19/2017 by 11:59:59 pm will count towards the total.
4. I will be the final arbiter of whether a entry qualifies and can change the guidelines of this challenge as I see fit.
Documentation required:
1. Date beer purchased.
2. Place beer purchased.
3. Name and location of brewery
4. Type of beer, i.e. hefewisen, hell, pils, dunkel, schwarz lager, etc.
5. Photos are welcome.
Sample of qualifying beers currently on hand in my climate controlled storage facility (unheated basement room)

Who is the Freezing saddles data guru? I have an idea or two for pointless prizes but need to determine if what we pull out of Strava can support them.

Yeah, it is I. I can provide answers as to what we are pulling out. And we have some plans to pull additional data (e.g. group rides) this year.

I am still working out the reporting details, but I want to do social prizes this year. Sure, we can all ride lots of miles in the freezing cold, but (one of) the point(s) of this is to bring everyone together.
So, I am proposing to do a Social Butterfly award for the person that attends the most social events (happy hours, rides, etc.) and an Infiltrator award for the person that infiltrates the most social events of other teams.
I will work out the details a bit more once I know how many teams and how many participants per team there will be.

Clearly this has been simplified so Steve O has some chance of understanding it this year!

I'll be bringing back the Michigan "You Call THAT a Snow Day?" Prize this year. A 6-pack of assorted Mitten-State brewed craft beers goes to person who rides in each of the OPM-designated snow days (ties broken by mileage). In the event of no snow days this year, I'll make something up.
