Accident on Capital Crescent trail in Bethesda - Sunday morning, July 10
Hi all, I'm a runner, not a cyclist. This morning I was running southbound on the Capital Crescent Trail in Maryland when we came across what looked like a fairly bad accident. Several bikes crumpled up on the west side of the trail. An ambulance was already on site, and also what appeared to be a few policemen, plus a crowd of bystanders, so I didn't stop (I'd just be one more person in the way).
I hope the ambulance was precautionary, and no one was seriously hurt.
The accident was a bit south of River Road, I believe. This was around 8:30 am.
Not an accident, but a medical emergency. The cyclist was riding when he suddenly swerved left and collapsed off his bike onto the side of the path. He was riding with a couple of his friends, and a few doctors stopped to help. I left when the EMTs arrived, at that point he still wasn't very responsive. They had to use the AED a couple times. I hope he's alright.
My wife and I passed by as the EMTs were arriving. Heard them preparing to use the defibrillator as we went by.
I will note that the trail users were very polite and respectful. As we approached we were given early warning of the incident by cyclists coming the other way and everyone I saw was being cautious and giving the emergency personnel room to work.
