    Very sad situation.

So the collision was at the intersection. It seems unlikely that a driver turning left off Taylor Run onto eastbound Duke could have been going more than a few MPH: such a collision probably would neither have inflicted the damage described nor sent the bicycle to its location in the photo. So I wonder if the driver was coming straight through on Duke. Did someone blow a traffic signal?

Friends of Ryan have put together a YouCaring Compassionate Crowdfunding website to raise money to help Ryan's wife and two young sons.
Thank you for providing more information on the accident. I'm relieved to hear that Ryan not only survived, but that the doctors expect him to emerge from his coma and recover, although I can imagine Ryan will face a long and difficult road ahead. I'll be sure to pass along the YouCaring site to my friends and family, and will make a donation myself later today. Please let his family know there are many people in the community sending warm wishes their way and praying for Ryan's full and speedy recovery. Nancy S.

That is what I suspect. Ryan was likely crossing Duke at W Taylor Run and was hit by a person driving eastbound. Considering the conditions on Duke in that area, I suspect it highly unlikely that Ryan was crossing against the light. From the photos I've seen, the bike was at least 25-30 feet away from the intersection indicating that the car hit Ryan at high speed ergo, not stopping at all.

I donated money last night and hope that others do too.

Anybody know if the police were able to cite the person who hit him?

I was privy to information that the police had and did not see any indication of a citation given on Thursday. This was at about 8:30pm that evening so things may have changed since but I can't be sure.

Being cynical, I expect no action on the part of the police.

Too bad these red light cameras are facing the wrong way.

I'm not certain they're even functioning. The ones at Duke and Walker haven't flashed in months either.

I thought the Commonwealth of Virginia banned localities from using red-light and speed cameras years ago. Something about "violation of privacy."

At the Clover College Park Community Association Board meeting last night, City staff said the crash is still under investigation.
