    Default Successful Open-Heart Garmin Surgery

    Battery successfully replaced.

I ordered from these guys, $25 plus shipping for new battery and surgical tools.

Took me about an hour what they do in the video in a few minutes.

Love the background music! What kind of battery life are you looking at now?

Amazon review says it only lasts about 75 minutes? http://www.amazon.com/Edge-800-Repla...eplacement+Kit

Haven't road tested the new battery yet, but the patient survived the operation and worked on my short commute this morning. For sure, it takes a lot more charge than the old battery, which was down to only about two hours on a charge, and one hour before the "low battery" warning. I'm expecting the new one to get back to the 8+ hours I got when the Garmin was purchased.

I'll be curious to see how well the battery lasts with use--my experience with generic replacements in devices has been lackluster.

I got 6+ hours on today's rides, and I think it has plenty to spare...

I did something similar with a Garmin 500 some time back:

The battery life after the replacement seemed to be similar to what I'd had on the Garmin when I first got it. And some time later, the Garmin developed unrelated problems, so I got it "repaired" (replaced with a refurbished one) by Garmin, after which I had an OEM battery anyway.

I think the poster said 75 miles, not minutes:
This battery will just barely make 75 miles before dying.

Handled a 5+ hour elapsed time no sweat today: https://www.strava.com/activities/543379070

I've got a century or two coming up in the next few weeks and will test it for some longer rides (I need to send it out with Rod Smith or Eric Williams)...

What was your percentage when you plugged it back in?

The new battery held up longer than my right knee!
