Alright, I final found this thread!!! Strava group joined.
Planning to attend.
The Challenge Strada Bianca's are 700 X 30. I have a used black set and a new in box gumwall set I might be willing to sell if interested.
I just mounted by some 700 X 33 Soma Supple Vitesse SL's on my cross bike. Also running Jack Brown Blue Label on my Salsa Vaya. Both are file tread. Haven't ridden the Soma's yet but the Jack Browns...
Can't say enough good things about the Clement USH. I am on my 2nd set of these 700 x 35 tires on my Vaya. Rode the GAP/C&O with 50 lbs. on them. Commute every day. Had a few flats but overall very...
Yes, this is basically what I am doing with the my Vaya but I think I am going to use a 34T chainring. Already have the 10-42, SRAM Force1 long cage derailleur and shifters. Also, got a crazy good...
Nope, you were right. SRAM changed that with 11 speed groups. Looks like I need to use a Rival 1 or Force 1 long cage derailleur.
Hmmmmm.....I may need to dig a little deeper into that one.
I settled on the SRAM 10-42 cassette. At this point, I am deciding on the front chain ring ratio. At the moment, I am leaning towards a 34 tooth ring. This nearly matches my current range but with a...
An update: I have jumped in and started ordering parts for a 1x11 setup. I plan to reuse my crank and convert it with a Wolf Tooth ring. I also got a great deal on a set of SRAM Force1 shifters and...
Thanks for that article. That is some of the best information I have been looking for in terms of 1x for touring and gearing. By the way, I think I have seen you out on the WO&D on your Vaya. The...
Hozn, do you use this bike loaded? Interesting to note, I already own a pair of 10 speed Apex shifters and a pair of S500s currently on the Vaya.
Interesting....thanks a lot. So if I went from a 42 tooth ring (my current big ring) down to a 34 or 36 tooth single ring with a 10-42 cassette I might be in the ballpark. Granted I would sacrifice...
Thanks everyone. I know everything will technically work. It's just hard to find information from anyone who has done this on a touring bike carrying 30 or so lbs. Tons of info on cross bikes,...
Thanks everyone. Still not particularly close to making a decision about this. Need to play around with Sheldon Brown's gear calculator.
As some of you know, I built a custom Salsa Vaya a couple of years ago. It has a SRAM X9 mountain bike group on it geared at 42/28 double crank and a 12-36 cassette. The full build is here. THIS IS...
I ordered the Euro 44-45 version for Shimano size 45. Perfect fit.
Glad to hear they are working for you. After going through this winter with winter specific cycling shoes, I am converted. I will never waste money on shoe covers I will destroy. In winter shoes, the...
The shoes were a gift but Campmor carries them at a good price. The insole I found at Jenson USA I think.
For Christmas I got some Shimano MW81 winter cycling shoes and replaced the cheap insoles with 45NRTH Jaztronaut insoles. My feet are very warm and happy now.
That Marshall's often has great deals on bike clothing. I have been top of the line Pearl Izumi jersey's and bibs there in the past. Also great deals on merino cycling socks.
I use the GoPro White Edition on a K-Edge Pro mount. I am very happy with it. It's very reliable and lots of memory with a 64GB card. I love the K-Edge mount. In my opinion, it the only way to go. I...
Parts are slowly being sold but the Thomson posts are still here.
The Urban 550 I have is nice and very reliable. If you think the 350 has enough power for you, go for it.
Additional parts
