Things are getting exciting for Capital Bikeshare. The website is launched and taking memberships at CapitalBikeshare.com, the bikes and stations are being shipped and will be installed over the next month, and we are gearing up to launch in mid September.

Over the next 2 months, Capital Bikeshare will be going “on tour” at existing events in the District and Arlington, to make sure the system is well known and understood by everyone. Activities will include showing of the bikes, talking about the program, handing out “free ride” coupons, and promotional items. We need help with this! If you would like to join us as a volunteer at these fun events, and help spread the word about Capital Bikeshare, please check the attached event list for dates and times. There are different shifts for each event based on set up and breakdown needs and high attendee times. Send an email to Anne Factor (anne.factor@godcgo.com) with the event, date, and time that you can volunteer. Feel free to participate in as many event as you wish. All volunteers get Capital Bikeshare staff t-shirts and hats to wear and keep! We’ll pull all of the event materials together for you and even have a little “cheat sheet” available with all the information you need to know about Capital Bikeshare so your work will be minimal.

Of particular note is the Arlington County Fair, August 19 thru 22. This is a huge event where we can reach a lot of people, and the timing just happens to be perfect with the system launch about a month away. We really need volunteers to help at this event.

Also on the volunteer list are a couple of New Member Kit stuffing parties. These are to assist with preparation of the first batch of membership packages that will go out to the founding members of the program (the first 2000 people to sign up for Capital Bikeshare). We really need help with this, and would like to invite you to volunteer to come over to our office space to help fold some t-shirts and stuff some envelopes with us. We will make it a fun social gathering with food, beverages and music to entertain us while we work. So come on over August 25 5:00-8:00 pm and August 26 1:00 -6:00 pm and have some fun! Just let Anne know that you are coming.
