OK OK, I'm not the captain but I felt a little left out not seeing a thread dedicated to our awesome team so I decided to get things started.. our awesome Captain Stacey can take things over from here. So… I know a few of you, but many of the names on our team are new to me so lets get aquatinted and then create a team name. For those of you that have not participated before, choosing the name is generally the most difficult and arduous part of the entire competition…. teams have divorced in the past before ever posting miles…. just saying.

BTW...I'm Dickie (duh)… I've been on the forum long enough now to see at least 25 different threads dedicated to blinding blinkies on the trail and I can usually be found at one of the coffee clubs each week (sometimes all of them). I'm a new dad so not sure if that will translate into elevated or depleted miles but I'll do my best to keep competitive. Looking forward to meeting you all during this stupid/fun competition.

Thanks for getting us started. I'm a multi year veteran of freezing saddles but I only post middling miles. However, if you don't already know, consistency (that is, riding every day or nearly every day) is one path to success. It might be sleazy, but a 1 mile ride every day if the week is worth 77 points, the equivalent of riding 67 miles one day a week. We need some big mile Eaters to win, but every ride matters.

I offer "team Un17 cycles" as a lame name suggestion.

Hi guys! and girls!
I'm Emma, and this will be my third Freezing Saddles. So glad they are allowing remote participants (if we participated in the past) now!!!
I miss DC, but am loving my new home base in Missola, MT. Like Capt. John C, I don't ride far, but I ride daily. Here's to hoping I don't eat any more ice.

Hola. This is my first time on Freezing Saddles. Most of my riding is commuting, about 11.5 miles each way, usually 3 or 4 days a week although I tend to wimp out if its too cold or there is snow/ice on the MVT.

Emma- I'm so glad you're on our team. Are you planning to fly (or bike)in for the ending happy hour? It was great fun hanging out with you last year. I should clarify that my actual name us Chris, I'm no longer in the military, and John is no part of my actual name. CPTJohnC just an internet pseudonym that I've used for 25 years.

To add to Chris' name suggestion I'm throwing out:

"Lucky#sleventeen"

Yeah Chris, I know your name is Chris--I remember you from real life AND strava life! I was trying to remember your screen name, because privacy concerns? Lol.

My dream is to attend the ending happy hour...keep your fingers crossed I can save the money!

I'll cross my fingers and my toes. And I'm just glad I'm not eminently forgettable. But I also explain the ridiculousness of my screen name to avoid too much confusion at our first team meet up... we will be doing a team meet up, right? (Emma gets a pass, from me, at least)

So, looking at the Strava team page and the Freezing saddles site we only have 6 members out of the 13 logging miles or signed up, thus we are in last place… not that it matters, but can we track down our non-contributors some how? We also need a proper team name…. any other suggestions? I love the idea of a team meet up (Emma via Skype of course)… I'm open to suggestions.

Hey All- this is my first year doing freezing saddles, with that said, I am open to handing over my captain title to someone with more seniority that knows the game.

I also like the idea of getting together, perhaps for a team ride?
Not sure about tracking down our missing teammates. But as the saying goes.. If you're not first you are last.

Well, I invited AverageJo to our Strava team, she's one of my former roommates from DC (who I convinced to participate last year. Looks like it stuck!).
Can we ask team organizers to email missing people on our behalf or something?

If someone sends me a PM with the forum names of the missing, I can get them the real name, e-mail, and Strava link for each of the missing.

Hello team members!

Does the team name have to have the number in it? I am amused by the name suggested by the thread name - Thundercats.

Anyway, looks like we are not the only ones missing people on Strava (assuming all teams have about 13 people). Hopefully the missing are all spending too much time riding to make sure that they have joined the Strava club.

Hi Team! Just joined the Strava group today. This is my first time doing Freezing Saddles and I am looking forward to it! It would be great to do a team ride/meet up!

Sent! Wasn't sure of all the names/screen names so may take some matching. Thank you!

Not at all, the team can be called anything... I sort of like Thundercats as well.

Hey hi Team 17!

As Emma mentioned, this is my second year doing Freezing Saddles. Zee_Rawrrr (on our team) is my co-worker!

I would up for a team ride! Does anyone work in (downtown) DC? I would also be down for a coffee club one of these mornings.

I am also participating (not aggressively) in the Beerneuring challenge, so let me know if you want to join in on one of those rides.

Full disclosure: I despise this forum and don't quite understand it, so I am not ignoring this team if I seem inactive! I just check Strava more frequently. I will try my best to check in on yall.

PS my name is Jona (pronounced John-a) :)

Thundercats works for me too! I'm Deirdre, this is my 3rd Freezing Saddles. Would love a team meet up one of these days.

I will ditto the comment from Jona about this forum (I had to create an account for this game and strava for that matter). I plan to manually enter all my data in strava a couple times a week so there will be a lag but don't think that means I am not riding! I will try and make a point to check this link a few times a week to see what the group is up to.

I work in DC and usually go to the Friday coffee club at M.E. Swings (I won't be there this Friday) it's a great meetup spot and a lot of the people that participate in Freezing Saddles go there. I usually get there around 7:45 but folks roll in continually until about 9am.

I would also be interested in learning more about this Beerneuring you mentioned Jona.. or doing our own spin off as a team.
If anyone wants to go on a team ride this coming Monday (MLK day) let me know.

Hi all, I'm Karen. First time doing Freezing Saddles. I'm down for group rides. I live in Petworth and work downtown DC. Thundercats sounds pretty awesome. I usually ride much more than I have been for the last week, I've just been on vacation. Hopefully I will start bringing in the miles! Also, I don't really check the forum much either. I'm on Strava almost daily.

Hi everyone,
This is HF, sorry for being a bit late to the party. This is my second year doing Freezing Saddle. I'm in Falls Church, stones throw from the WOD mile 8, and usually rides in the evening and on weekends as I don't commute via bike. Perhaps it's a good thing that I didn't take part in team naming as I would probably come up with something that's totally politically inappropriate. I'm fine with ThunderCats vs. something like ThunderPuffins...

Cheers,
-HF

Whew - go away from the forum for a couple of days and things get active. Maybe I should take the hint.
I live in Fairfax, work downtown (Near Capitol hill). I'd love to do some team rides, but I can be a pain to plan with due to the demands of life.

Stacey: Just an FYI in case you look at this more often that at Strava: Your miles are showing up in Strava but NOT on the Freezing Saddles Leaderboard. Dickie mentioned that you might need to authorize freezing saddles to 'see' your Strava data. We have moved up 2 places since yesterday (though the margins are razor thin) and adding your prodigious miles would definitely bump us up several more spots in the standings.

I'm definitely up for an MLK meetup if folks are interested.

Do you have her e-mail address? I can get you that if forum and Strava posts are not working.
