They are in! Some who came to the chili & a movie last night already have them. Keep an eye out.

January 1 is fast approaching, and many of you are wondering, "How will I know if that good-looking person on a bike over there is a Freezing Saddles player?"
Well, first, if they are on a bike in the dead of winter, that's a good sign. Second, if they are good looking. . .well, if they aren't playing, they oughta be.

However, if they or their bike are sporting one of these, then no guesswork is involved, and you can sidle up with your conversation starter all ready to go.

About 20 players have procured them through me directly, but that's not going to work for everyone. Now available through the mail.

Add $1 for postage and such. So pricing for mail delivery is: xxxxxxxxxxx (See new pricing in later post)

You may pay me through PayPal (PayPal.me/steveoffutt), then PM me with your postal address.

Then start looking for the green.

Will the green bands be available to purchase at the Happy Hour or should I use the PayPal route?

I hope so. I will not be there myself, so I will need someone honest and dependable to bring them in my stead. The FCCII people all disqualified themselves, admitting to being either dishonest or undependable (or both). I am confident I will find someone, eventually.

So a bunch of you have your orders in. Thanks.
They should go out in the mail on Monday, so hopefully you will have them prior to the start.

If you get your order in by tomorrow night, I will include it with Monday's shipments.

BTW, some with PayPal accounts were having trouble with the PayPal.me link. If that's you, just send directly from your PayPal to my email:
my first name @offuttemail daht calm

Replace "my first name" with my 5-letter first name.

Hello all,
When I went to the PO today I heard something completely different than what I heard at a different PO last week. So I'm suspending the mail program until I figure out how much it is actually costing me. My apologies.

Those of you who already ordered them, they are on their way one way or another. However, I don't know if they will arrive postage due or get returned or what. I placed a number of them in a mailbox with insufficient postage so we'll see what happens. Some that went out today should be fine.

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion. Unfortunately, it turns out the shipping costs are as much as the bands themselves in batches of 1 or 2. However, if you can band (haha) together and order in groups, the per unit cost can be reduced.

I hope to be at the circle of cycles for at least a little while on New Years Day morning, and Boomer has agreed to bring them to the first happy hour. So those are additional options at the regular $5 for 2, $3 for 1. Also, if you are along the R-B corridor or the Custis or near EFC--either for work or life--we may be able to meet or I can drop them off for you somewhere. Or pass them through a friend. PM me with your proposal.
Hopefully will be at HDCC (Imperial) tomorrow.

If mail still looks like your favored option, here are prices, including shipping costs.

1 - $6.00
2 - $8.00
3 - $10.25
4 - $12.50
5 - $14.75
6 - $17.00
8 - $20.00
$2.00 each additional after 8

I plan to purchase at a Happy hour. Thanks. This is a great idea.

I just handed them off to Boomer, who will have them at the kick-off happy hour. There are already more than 100 in circulation, so keep your eye out for the green.

If you sent me money through PayPal, then I put them in the mail for you. If you have not received them prior to the happy hour, then PM me and I will tell Boomer to give you replacements. Some people have reported receiving them already, so hopefully yours will show up, too.

Another USPS success story here. I keep the bands with my helmet, and they have helped me remember to start and stop Strava to avoid manual data entry.

Tip for the Android phone users: add the Strava widget to a home screen, it saves time and effort over using the app to record, which is especially nice when it's so chilly out. Also: when done, tap Stop and then you can tap Finish when you're inside, warm, and have WiFi.

Thank you, Steve!

If you want FS bands, look for me working the registration table at the BAFS 2016 HH.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160107/124b07e943f2d5c9884515cb4fd84cd1.jpg

Boomer - can you put two aside for me please? I paypal-ed Steve on December 23rd and never received them.

Are there any left following happy hour? Or do I need to kludge together my own? Or, as seems most likely, I'll just be BAFS2016 incognito.

I have a handful squirreled away, but first dibs goes to those who paid me but never received in the mail. If I still have any left after that, I'll let you know.

If you paid me for some bands to be delivered via US post and you have not received them, please PM me. I will send you replacements at no charge.

Once I know how many I have left over after that, I will make them available once again. Keep an eye on this thread.

Okay, neon green band coveters, it looks like I have about a dozen left.
PM me if you want any, and we'll work something out.

My two finally arrived in the mail today. As I picked up two at the kickoff HH to make up for the missing mailed bands, I'll kick in once again to SteveO's paypal account and offer two bands to anyone who shows up to the Team 12 6:00pm SnowFest (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?9760-Team-12&p=132524#post132524) gathering this Friday at Cap City Brewery in Shirlington.

I bought 3, gave one to my husband, and managed to lose the other 2 over the weekend (whilst wearing them) :(.

It's still possible to acquire one of the highly coveted, limited edition, Freezing Saddles, neon green bands. I don't plan on ordering another batch next year, so these may end up being the only 250 in existence. I have a handful left that I will award at the final happy hour, providing I receive worthwhile entries as outlined below.

Rules:
1 - You cannot already have one. If you already have one or more bands, you are ineligible. If you used to and you broke, lost or gave yours away, then you are eligible to enter (sammyiam).
2 - You must be present at the final happy hour to collect (or if you aren't going to be there, you may designate a proxy to pick it up for you). If it's not taken at the HH, then you forfeit the band.

To enter:

Write a haiku or limerick or other short poem form of no more than 5 lines that will make me want to give you a band. It should somehow reference or capture the essence of the band, Freezing Saddles, or both. Clever wordplay is encouraged. Subtle (or silly) metaphor, too. May be humorous or serious: bring a tear to the eye or a chuckle to the throat.

Each person may submit up to two entries. You may either post them here, or PM them to me if you think they are so good you don't want others riffing off your genius.

Contest closes on Wednesday, March 30 at noon.

There once was a cyclist from the Hinterland
His love of Team 13 was all too grand
His cycling was slow
But always on the go
He missed the chance to wear a green band

Only 21 hours left to enter.

I already have a green band, so I'm not eligible, but here's a limerick anyway, on the thoughts of a #BAFS cyclist while riding:

O how I wish it were hot.
I thought it might be, but it's not.
My saddle is frozen!
I wouldn't have chosen
To have this red nose full of snot.

dkel

Obviously, I have nothing better to do:

Freezing Saddles rides are great to be on,
Thought it couldn't get colder with freon.
If you want to be seen,
Go reflective and green!
(Steve O's bands are the best, 'cause they're neon.)

Steve O

Me, too.

There once was a cyclist named dkel
Made up some rhymes that are real swell
Very fine fellowgible
But completely ineligible
No green band for you, sirÖoh well

Steve O

and....

Your limericks are clever and witty
With scansion and rhyming quite pretty
Shall I break the rule?
Oh, donít be a fool!
No green band for you, what a pity

Steve O

Somebody stop me!!

OTOH, dkel my friend, dear
There really is nothing to fear
Bicycle tag winner
You don't get a dinner
Better yet, though, I owe you a beer

Dkel thought green bands were real cool,
And played Steve O's game like a fool.
Steve's game was a flop,
But that shouldn't stop
Steve from breaking his own stupid rule!

Perhaps I'm not smart as I think:
I don't think Steve's going to blink.
Without a green band
To hold in my hand,
I may as well hold a nice drink!

This winter had a few bouts of cold
'tho biking in it was kind of bold
I rode til I dropped
yet my team was topped
a neon band would seem like I won gold

I shouldn't be playing this game,
But everyone else thinks it's lame!
D'you think, come this eve,
That my good buddy Steve
Will gift me a band all the same?

Rockford just texted me "stop the limerick," so this will be my parting shot:

I'm writing these lines with a smirk
'Cause I really should get back to work!
Though I think it's funny
Being rhymey and punny,
I prolly just sound like a jerk.

We now rejoin our regularly scheduled bike discussion, already in progress.

What? Are you telling me not everyone has an alert set for when their spouse starts posting *multiple* limericks on a public forum?

Steve O

Who cares what Rockford is thinking
We'll ignore her texts without blinking
Let's waste all our time
With rhyme after rhyme
Till tomorrow when we all will be drinking

Yeah, Rockford just thinks I should chuck it,
And pitch all my rhymes in the bucket.
But someone must teach her:
Not all lim'ricks feature
That dirty old man from Nantucket.

That's really the last one. Really. I promise.
