There are events at some CaBi stations this week to celebrate five years of bikeshare in the region, plus the "bike-in" movie on Saturday at Yards Park ("Breaking Away").

Greater Greater Washington posted an article about how CaBi has become part of Washington culture and everyday life:

I signed up with CaBi a week after it first began. I've been a member ever since. After I got used to the differences between CaBi and other bikes, I began using CaBi more and more frequently. This year I've done about 90-95 percent of my riding on CaBi. Maybe even more than that. (I don't think I've ridden my triathlon bike this year. I don't remember if I rode the mountain bike at all. Maybe a couple times?)

The program continues to evolve, through expansion, new jurisdictions and now the downtown bike corrals. There are still problems with empty stations downtown on weekday evenings. But overall, I can't imagine this area without Capital Bikeshare. Looking forward to the next wave of expansion, which could happen before the end of the year.
