Well that's rather specific. Shouldn't it be "local bike legend," "insane hard man," "veteran courier," or some such?

Nope. Although all those descriptions clearly fit Rod, I like the idea of forum members roaming the streets in search of the man himself!

Funny thing is I TOTALLY was thinking this on my way to work this morning after I claimed "Lynn". Just didn't know when I would happen to run into him. Fortunately, Rod sometimes does pickups in my building and it just happened that I ran into him the hallway as I was going to change out of bike clothes (at 11 am).

This TAG is treading near the line (see the rules (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8087-Side-bet-activity-looks-like-fun&p=111915#post111915)). The Forum seems to "like" it, though, so in the spirit of community, play on.

I was just going to search for a short thin pipe.

From THE RULES:

Post: “Bike by a bank”
Reply – picture of bike by the Potomac River: “Bike by a (river)bank”
The person who was “it” may veto the photo by <dislike>ing it. The original photo then becomes fair game again, and anyone may respond. The Forum can overturn a veto, however, by bestowing 3 more likes than dislikes.

I say find that thin pipe and let the arguing begin.

I say find that thin pipe and let the arguing begin.

KC has already threatened a veto. Being Washington, we could see how the balance of power plays out.
Is the threat a bluff?
If not, will it be upheld?
Or overthrown?

This is fun.

I can't believe Rod didn't tell you to just take a pic with him and your bike so that you could have the ineffable glory of being IT. Child bike trailer attached to bike. No child.

Trailer cable-locked to bike in one photo. Attached to bike in others (Empty? Or is there a secret inside?)
Mysterious looking lady (not smiling) with helmet head peering intently at camera
Black car next to black truck sitting in driveway.

rcannon100
04-16-2015, 08:02 AM
Technically, its not balanced. Just saying.

In biomechanics, balance is an ability to maintain the line of gravity (vertical line from centre of mass) of a body within the base of support with minimal postural sway.

Steve O
04-16-2015, 08:25 AM
Technically, its not balanced. Just saying.

It is balanced. Although it is difficult to tell in the photo, it is not touching the pole. Take a look the next time you ride by there: you will see that the pole is a good foot or more away from the railing. In fact, careful observation of the shadows verifies that. If the seat were leaning against the pole, the shadow of the rack would be visible on the pole. The shadow, however, is completely off the pole. Abracadabra.

My family realizes that when I don't ride my bike I ride them harder.

No worries. All are welcome to join the game at any time. Not sure what you did to get in trouble with your family, but once they realize their error, hopefully we'll see you back on the bike.

I am "Mr Mom" and that equals little time to ride. Some weeks are better than others. I suppose I should invest in a trailer or kid seat for my 3 year old. At least I could squeeze in some extra mileage that way!

My husband is a stay at home dad, and he and the kids primarily travel by bike. Once you get the gear, it's easy.

Um, yeah !! Get a trailer of craigslist; there are always a few for sale. Easier to ride with and more generally useful than an on-bike seat.

And get that 3yr-old a bike! -- And enter him/her in Phoenix Derby next month.

The game is already proceeding. It would only have stopped if rcannon disliked your photo. Then it would require 3 more likes than dislikes to overturn his veto.

True. Only if his picture gets three dislikes will he have to change it. Even I did not<dislike> it (...yet); I just frowned at it.

May was our second full month of Forum Bicycle Tag (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8087-Side-bet-activity-looks-like-fun). So far a dozen forumites have participated.
Everyone is welcome to play--just get on your bike, find a cow and take a picture with it and your bike. Creativity is good if you can't get out in the country and find a real cow: mural of a cow, cow-themed establishment, etc. (In fact, if you look at it carefully, you will see that the tag picture itself does not feature an actual, real cow)

Here's the May recap. Thirteen tags:

Bumping this in case you are out riding in the countryside this weekend.

So there's about a dozen of us enjoying Bicycle Tag, but the thread has gone dormant. It would be more fun if more people joined in I believe, like in Freezing Saddles.
What's missing, you ask? Points. And Pointless Prizes. And imaginary competition. And beer. Yes, beer.
Let's try instituting some competition and some beer (that should get dkel and Rockford's attention, at least)

Time to spice the game up with scoring. Here's my rather contrived scoring system:
Points for being It = 5 + (4 - 0.1x) where x = hours since the TAG was posted. Speed counts.
Respond within an hour and earn 9 points. Respond after 20 hours and earn 7 points. Respond after 39 hours and earn 5.1 points. 40 hours or longer, 5 points.

Top point scorer each month wins a drink from me (beer at a happy hour or coffee at a coffee club). If I finish first or second then I will buy a drink for the top two finishers.

Here are the April results (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8372-DC-Bike-Forum-Bicycle-Tag-%28-bikeforumbicycletag%29&p=114962#post114962):
Steve O 34.6
dkel 23.7
KayakCyndi 15.5
Amalitza 13.5
ShawnoftheDread 9.0
Komorebi 7.0
Dickie 6.8
CaseyKane50 5.0

May results (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8372-DC-Bike-Forum-Bicycle-Tag-%28-bikeforumbicycletag%29&p=117162#post117162):
rcannon100 33.6
Steve O 22.5
Boomer2U 10.0
GB 9.0
chris_s 5.3

All time standings:
Steve O 67.1
rcannon100 33.6
dkel 23.7
CaseyKane50 21.9
KayakCyndi 15.5
Amalitza 13.5
Boomer2U 10.0
GB 9.0
ShawnoftheDread 9.0
Komorebi 7.0
Dickie 6.8
chris_s 5.3

Drink prizes are retroactive, so I owe rcannon100 and dkel one drink each and myself two drinks.

No one has scored in June yet, so the competition is wide open. If you're out in the country this weekend, get a bike pic with a cow. Or be creative and find another way to take a picture of your bike with a cow.

Thanks for joining in, AF. The more the merrier. The current TAG is "bike on an abandoned railroad line." So to be it, you take a picture of your bike there first. Then post a picture in a new context.
Rules are here (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?8087-Side-bet-activity-looks-like-fun&p=111915#post111915).
