There was an accident on the WOD downhill after the I-66 Bridge around 8:15 AM this morning. There is a lady on the stretcher with a dozen FX county EMTs, one man cyclist in team jersey with bad rashes on the face, and one horrified female cyclist.

First, I’m looking an update her condition. Hopefully, she was ok.

Second, we, the cyclists need to slow down and prepare to stop when we’re downhill on this section during the summer. After the climb, we want to downhill fast but it has a danger hidden curve. Last week, I was doing about 25 MPH downhill and 3 year old kid jumped out of nowhere but I was able to stop in time.

There are lot of inexperienced riders and joggers on the trail.

So sorry to hear about this. Earlier in the week I encountered trimming and mowing along with the ongoing construction. That is one of my favorite little hills but there are many things going on in that stretch right now.

Agreed, I will try to behave better coming through there.

That can be a tricky spot. I ate the asphalt in that turn one rainy afternoon about two years ago. Road bike slicks in the rain and hit the center stripe and it was like being on ice. I walked away with nothing but some rash and hurt pride, but I can see how someone could get in trouble there.

We are talking about Virginia Lane right? Do you guys take the trail on that downhill? I run the street as soon as I cross the bridge.

I'm talking about downhill trail run parallel with I-66 after the bridge if you're going west.

Ahh, OK. I'm thinking the east side. Thx.

Yes, it's another danger downhill that we can collide with car.

I always use the Virginia Lane instead of trail for both uphill and downhill.

Hopefully everyone involved is ok. I was almost hit by another cyclist who ran the stop sign at the bottom of Virginia LN last year. I stopped abruptly as he crossed the road and I asked why he didn't stop at his stop sign. He said because I should have been on the trail... ugh.

Us fixie riders need to remember that we sometimes don't exactly stop on a dime... Especially those of us above the double century mark in the weight department. I effected a great emergency stop this morning from 140+ rpm to zero, but it took me 10 meters more than it would have on a coasty bike.
