Registration for Freezing Saddles closed last week. Registration Czar elwbikes very generously allowed some late signups; however, teams are now finalized and no more late signups are being accepted for initial team creation.

What should you do now?

CURRENTLY REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS

Teams are being announced at the happy hour on January 8. Once teams are announced, each team will need to create a Strava club and make sure all team members join that club. Hozn will add the clubs to the leaderboard. IF YOU EXPECT TO BE AWAY FROM STRAVA when teams are announced and therefore unable to join your team within the next day or two, please let me know this ahead of time. You can post on this thread or PM me. If I know ahead of time, I promise to not immediately substitute you out of the game. If you do NOT notify me ahead of time and do NOT join your Strava club in a timely manner, you may be subbed out.

If you have not yet done so

(1) You need to authorize the bafs app to read your data. http://freezingsaddles.com/authorize
(2) You need to join the BikeArlington team on Strava: http://www.strava.com/clubs/bikearlington

Doing this sooner rather than later will both allow hozn more time to iron out problems with your data ( if any exist), and will also demonstrate to me and your future teammates a good-faith intention to join and participate (in case you have any problems joining your team once announced).

THOSE WHO ARE SORRY YOU MISSED OUT

If you did NOT sign up in time to make the team, you can sign up as a possible substitute. I am making no promises about anyone making it onto a team. However, if the past is any indication of the future, at least some of you probably will. Rcannon, the Keeper of the Registration Form, will reopen registration shortly for subs. I will edit this post to add the link when that happens. I will be in contact with substitution signups, but you will NOT be assigned to a team until after happy hour team announcements plus sufficient time for everyone to find their teams.

EDIT: Link for late signup registration.

Just a reminder, all miles and daily points starting from January 1 count, regardless of when you join your team. So go ride your bikes!

Thanks!

Can we define "timely manner"?

Midnight Jan 10th? Jan 12th?

72 hrs after the teams are posted on the forum?

How about 10 am January 12?

I don't plan on unilaterally kicking people off teams or anything like that, though, so the real answer is when your team captain starts to worry you're not going to sign up. But not before 10 am January 12. :)

Amalitza, I hate to do this, but we are getting very near capacity with the initial happy hour. Those who are not yet registered should be asked to wait for a later team happy hour, assuming they get on a team. Could you please amend your post in that regard? I'm sure each of the teams will have a get together early on. Thanks!

"Like Chris Horner, it looks like you are entering the season without a team."

F-in hilarious.

That is funny that it was also (until recently, I guess) still applicable this year! I forgot about the more subtle 2014 references buried in there :-)

So excited... I am signed up. Have signed my life away to Bike Arlington on Strava... and hope to get in my first ride of the year tomorrow.

Giddy Powerful...

I will be out of town from Jan 7-11 with limited likelihood of accessing strava using a platform that will make it reasonably likely that I can join a new team. Please, please, please let me stay on my designated team...?

Late registrants - I'm bumping a copy of this post to this thread to let you know that you're invited!

While our happy hour group has grown (73 at this point!) and our room might get a little snug, I'm going to throw caution to the wind and invite late registrants too, but I just want to let all coming to the happy hour know that, while we'll gather for beer and appetizers in our separate room, some might want to spread out into the main part of the restaurant or bar as well.

I'll reserve some booths or tables near our room but in the main restaurant area where team members or other groups of friends can gather for more appetizers or dinner. I'll also set 7 pm as the time when we will award the gold nuggets and make any other announcements so that all won't feel like they have to stay in the separate room if it gets too crowded. Please be super nice and try to help our wait staff as they work hard to keep track of all of us. They're very good to us there.

BTW, we have a good-sized side area at the back of our room that's perfect for backpacks, panniers, jackets etc., so that should make things a little easier. I'll post a few more details on Thursday. It should be a fun evening!

Newbie question, here. I just authorized things as requested in Strava. Does this mean that this rides I have already done these seven days will be added to the data, or have I missed the boat on this? That would make me a very sad panda indeed. 

All of your past rides should be included, I believe. The BAFS gods can provide further clarification, I'm sure.

Rides count when they are posted in strava., no exceptions. Authorizing freezing saddles to pull your data and joining the bike Arlington team cause your data to be included in the challenge from the start. You are good. You will need to join your team club on strava clubs once teams are announced on friday.

Rides flagged in Strava as Trainer rides and rides with the special hashtag (#nobafs I think) are not included.

Ignorant newbie here...why would someone use the #nobafs? Isn't that just wasting points?

If you're feeding data to Strava with something that allows you to name rides but not set the Trainer flag?

I like to keep track of how many miles I put on my bikes so I can guess when I need to replace things, especially the Prettybike. So things like trainer rides, while I'd want them recorded, I wouldn't want included in FS miles.

I've also had a few rides have pretty epic glitches that I wanted recorded for posterity (like the time I took my bike on the Metro, forgot to turn off Strava, and ended up having a 35 MPH average speed near Lake Artemesia—or the time I broke 55 MPH on Rhode Island Avenue riding a steel Bianchi and took one of the most competitive College Park KOM's), but wouldn't want mucking up the FS stats.*

I just checked the leader board again, and all of my data is now there! Woot! :D
