Hey team - the final cyclocross race of the season is this Sunday Dec 14, https://www.facebook.com/bikeneticx

Pre-registration has been extended and closes tonight 9pm (Friday), there will be beer and lots of great prizes (I think you need to pre-register to be eligible for some of the prizes).

Sign up for a race, what do you have to lose? Let me know and I can help you get started with picking which race and day licenses.

Sunday should be sunny and warm, sorry - not as much mud as Capital Cross Classic.

Already signed up for one race, thinking of also signing up for the single speed at 3:15.

We will be there less DKel. The boy is racing in the 9-10 division, hoping for a new red cx bike.

The hard work put forward by the group was very clear. It was a fun and challenging course with cool perks and neat features. Already look forward to racing it next year!
A big thanks to the Bikinetic Team and volunteers.

very well done!

Great event yesterday - the weather couldn't have been better! The boy ended up categorized as "going to eleven", so he didn't podium, but we all had a great time.

And I'm totally jealous of my kid that he got to do it and I didn't. So next year, do I strip the racks and fenders off my Straggler and race, or just race it as is? (My CX tires totally fit under my fenders.)

You strip off those things you mentioned ... and the bottle cages.

Actually, you buy a Traitor Crusade and race SS.

Get a dedicated race bike? :D

Racks and stuff may be against the rules. They certainly would be unwelcome by your fellow cyclist. Cyclo is the NASCAR or roller derby of cycling. Expect to crash. Several times.

rcannon100, where did you get this photo from?

The event was super cool. I raced the first race at 8:15 and nearly everything was still frozen. That was a good thing, I assume as things melted it got tougher. Had a good race and finished 10th.

My only disappointment, the beer tent could not open early enough for me. I assume that fault lies with the VA State Gov.

Ugh, rules?! I think my CX tires are too wide for the rules...don't some people race fat bikes and junk?

I have already looked at this, believe me. If I ever do a CX race, I'll likely start with what I have, even if I have to strip off all the accessories, which is a big pain in the rear. It'll be next year, anyway.

The pic above explains precisely what I was afraid of doing and why I opted to run those every single time.

I think the tire width rule is a UCI rule; I don't think their rules apply to any of these local races.

Yes, you should just strip your bike and race it. Actually, you should strip it down, put on some big tires and do Snot Cycle this winter.

Rules like tire width aren't enforced in most CX races (they are for UCI level elite races). The only actual rules I can think of is no bar ends, and two working brakes (don't show up on a brakeless track bike).

Hey a few of us were in the same race with you. Tim Kelley crushed it on a mtb and finished 2nd. I battled with ShawnoftheDread but he bested me and took 6th, I finished 7th. Glad you came out to race, sorry I didn't know who you were.

A few other forum members raced - congrats all!

KayakCyndi finished 4th in women's cat 4
tuba transport finished 5th in men's cat 4/5
Erin C finished 6th in women's 3/4
rule#10 finished 5th in men's cat 3/4 35+
rcannon100 jr. finished 6th in men's cat 4/5
DaveK raced in men's cat 3/4

Saw a few other forum members: Mark Blacknell, consularrider, rcannon100, rockford10 + boys, megabeth, dgm - sorry if i missed anyone. It was a great day of racing, thanks all for coming out.

I was not sure who you all were either. I was the guy on the Ti 29er hardtail with Jones bars (http://instagram.com/p/ua458oETGW/?modal=true) The link is to a photo of me and my bike in the DCCX. I had a white Potomac Velo jersey on this weekend and orange grips on the bars.

I was not super far behind you three in 7-9th mid-second lap. I had a hope to catch you after the low hump barriers, but I did something way dumb. I turned too early in a turn and got caught up in the tape. Getting myself extracted pegged my heart rate. I did not recover until after the sand pit and then it was too late for me to close the gap. Even without this, at best I would have caught but not passed 9th and 8th (David Stearman and Brian Indre) No way would have I caught you.

So looking forward to the 45 plus 3/4/5 next year. Wish I could have gotten the 10 races in this year to move to cat 4.

I was there, too, sans dogs this week (since I was technically "working"). I was the medic, if anyone noticed a blond girl walking around with a medic bag (or mostly, cheering everyone as they went over the Happy Humps since it was thankfully a pretty uneventful race for me!).

Everyone seemed to really enjoy the course and had a blast. Congrats to everyone who raced and double congrats to those that podiumed! (Is that a word?)

Not sure I'm gonna do it (I think I've only actually done it once -- maybe twice). Never raced at the Freedom Center either. I'll give it some thought, though; I had a blast the year I did it.

First loser! Well, first place was way off the front and I wasn't going to catch him on a wide open course like that. Time to buy a CX bike!

Oh, and I would have done the 4/5, but I had stuff going on in the afternoon!

What a spectacular day! The race went off so well and everyone had a great time. I spent so much time running around between marshalling, tending the sand pit, registration and a little racing that I took very few pictures. But Dave took these two:

Good News (think Farnsworth). There is still some CX racing this season if you want to head up to Philly

I am not the biggest fan of GoPro like stuff, but this is freaking amazing. From the 4/5 race. Love the readout of cadence, speed, etc...

Regardless of your bike or schedule, aren't you a bit of a sang-bagger as a Cat 2 racing in a Cat 5 race or even the 4/5 race?

My USA Cycling license says I'm a Cat 5 on the Road, Track and in Cyclocross. I can't race in anything else until I get enough experience doing 10 races!

You can cat up before 10 races if you are on the podium. I know someone who submitted for upgrade after 6 (and was granted) and I don't think he even had podium finishes (but he had placed well). I will try submitting after 6 or 7 races (road) if I can hold up the top-10 streak. Would be nice to finally do better than 4th for at least one race, though!

Maybe I will try to cat up (to 4) for 'cross next year too. But I will focus on road first.

My mistake. I was fooled by CrossResults.com profile linked to the results for the Bikentic (http://www.crossresults.com/race/4944#r15127) race. http://www.crossresults.com/racer/15127 It is messed up showing you as a Cat 2 racer with 40 plus races. They are mixing up your results with another Tim Kelly, 46 from Boise Idaho. Maybe you should e-mail CrossResults (part of Bike Reg) and ask them to correct it before more jackballs falsely accuse you of being a sandbagger.

I think this is your real record: http://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=431901
This is his: https://usacycling.org/results/?compid=212853.

In the past, I was opposed to the rules retarding people's desires to upgrade, but now agree with the rules a lot more. Finishing ten races before a 5 to 4 upgraded is totally sensible unless you are just silly faster than everyone else race after race. Like Hozn suggested, when you get your tenth race finished, ask for a jump to 3 instead of just to 4 if u have enough points. You need just 10 points which I think you already have. http://www.usacycling.org/cyclo-cross-category-upgrade-guidelines.htm

hozn
12-20-2014, 09:23 PM
Wait, that wasn't what I was suggesting :) Can you do that [skip cat 4]? I would have assumed you need to earn those 4->3 points in cat 4 races (?)
