I quite enjoyed coming across lots of familiar faces (and/or helmet & bike combos, depending) during Bike to Work Day and Bike DC. It made me think that it would be great to try and connect with folks here, putting faces to names. Anyone else interested?

For the first effort, I was thinking of something Arlington-based (think Clarendon) and after work (think 6p), as that seems to be not terribly inconvenient for our most active posters. That said, I'm more than happy to commit to helping make it happen in a more MD-friendly locale for the second effort (maybe somewhere in Mt. Pleasant?).

Interest? Advice? Offers to buy the first round? Post it here, and I'll try to manage it into an actual time and place if this is something we want to see happen.

Wow! It is so super awesome of you to buy the first round! I don't have to wear those god awful bike shoes, right? Frankly, I don't think I can ride in heels so I may leave Spartacus at home.

Best wishes,
Ann

We should take over the patio at Jay's Saloon. That would make me happy for an hour. :D Great idea, Mark.

Good idea with the shoes, Ann. I don't think Spartacus would want to be seen with you while you're wearing heels. THE HORROR!!! ;) God awful bike shoes rule!!!! :D

I'm always up for happy hour in theory, though with kids and a weird work schedule it's sometimes hard to actually make it to one. Unless it's Kids Happy Hour at the Reef in Adams Morgan on Fridays. Then you can pretty much just expect I'll be there.

+1 for Jay's! I had the opportunity to check this place out for the first time last week. Great space and the food is well priced!

I love the idea - if the timing works out I'm there. Would Jay's have a problem with my 1 yr tagging along?

Nope, Jay's is friendly to everyone.

@Dirt- god awful bike shoes are the instrument of the devil.

Since Mr. Blacknell is buying, any day except Tuesday is good for me.

Best wishes,
Ann

I could do this. A dive bar huh?

Mark Blacknell

Jay's is a total dive. And I've loved it for years. It helps balance out what Clarendon has turned into. Food and beer are cheap, people are cool. It is bike-friendly, dog-friendly, and kid-friendly (well, they won't kick them out). However, one of the things I am proudest of it for is that it allowed me to witness a bar fight over . . . the Electoral College.

~

Okay, do we want to set this up for 6pm on Wednesday, June 8th, at Jay's Saloon & Grille (http://maps.google.com/maps/place?um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Jay's+Saloon+and+Grille&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Jay's+Saloon+and+Grille&hnear=0x89b7b69d7ba7a70f:0xf8cf6fc845f6b093,Arling ton,+VA&cid=10643527785482143853)?

And obviously ACC is paying for the first round. Unless she shows up on Spartacus in 4" heels. Then we'll just consider that her in-kind donation of entertainment.

Well seeing that I'm in the Fairfax Hinterlands, my attendance is unlikely. Sounds like fun, though!

It's not the heels that are giving me trouble, it's the way the damn sundress keeps riding up. I will be there, promptly at six. We will discuss the drink order shortly thereafter. A fight over the Electoral College? Only in DC.

Best wishes,
Ann

Ah, FFX, I'm sure we can cobble together a scholarship beer program for the disadvantaged . . .

I'll come if I'm in town. Always meant to check out Jays but I'm never in Arlington after hours. I may wear my Groucho mask just in case.

Just pop your collar, DaveK. You'll look like one of the lost souls from Clarendon Ballroom. (But should keep your helmet with you, lest you get understandably shunned.)

Thanks for setting this up. I've never been to Jay's so have no opinion on the place. Am always up for meeting other bikeheads ;)

Will your imaginary friend be paying?

Probably not, but I LOVE the look on the servers face when you tell him/her that my imaginary friend is buying. I'll stop thinking that's funny next decade... maybe.

I wanna go if noobs are allowed, the mrs and I will not be riding there but if I need to dress the part I understand.

Maybe the bikes will stay in the car as proof, if that is required for admission.

Definitely welcome. Park on the left side of the lot (or along the back).
