DDOT finally signed an advertising deal (a year after receiving bids). According to The WashCycle, this means that DDOT will start to run operating profits on Capital Bikeshare. (Arlington, Alexandria and Montgomery County may have different operating results, based on whether they work out their own advertising arrangements. I remember reading about legal restrictions on such advertising in Virginia, but I don't recall the details.)

This can mean even more money for CaBi, at least in the District.

So, IOW, as far as VA law is concerned if you're right, it's OK for the state to have a private for-profit corporation upgrade and run major highways (HOT lanes) and take all thge profits from it, but god forbid a local municipality generate any ad revenue from a system like CaBi.

Perfectly ridiculous logic!
