View Full Version : Arlington ride: 12th Annual Green Home and Garden Tour (Guided Cycling Option)

05-28-2014, 04:33 PM

If you have time this Sunday, June 1st, and are interested in local greening of homes and gardens, *AND* you want to learn more while riding a bike (dang you must be talented!), then read on!

From the ACE website (http://www.arlingtonenvironment.org/events/gardentour/): The 12th annual tour will include a mixture of new green homes, green renovations, and watershed-friendly gardens. The homes featured on the tour this year will be certified with the Arlington County Green Home Choice program, which provides residents with assistance to make home renovation or construction projects as energy, water, and natural resource efficient as possible.

Guided Cycling Option

Ride as a group from stop-to-stop. Participants will meet in the Key School parking lot that fronts on North Veitch Street at 12:45pm. The school address is 2300 Key Blvd. Riders will return to the starting location by 5:00 p.m. at the latest, however, we expect to return closer to 4:00 pm to give cyclists time to visit some additional homes if they so desire. The tour route is approximately 8 miles in length with some gentle to mild hills. The bike tour is appropriate for medium-level riders.

The bike tour will visit sites G,H, K, M, and N in the booklet (http://www.arlingtonenvironment.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/GardenTour-2014-brochure.pdf). These sites include one new home that is almost completely finished construction and a home renovation that is about 70 percent completed. The other three sites will be displaying their gardens, permeable pavers, and other stormwater retention features. A map and cue sheet will be available at the tour and Bike Arlington is providing some nice giveaways for participants.

Suggested donation is $10.
